...at one of those shopping centre kiosks, so that I can put a Giff gaff SIM into it, what are the chances of losing any data/contacts/pics etc?
I'm out of contract and phone is fine, so I'd like to save some money...

Ring Vodafone and ask them to do it then, it'll cost you nowt.
