  1. mushroom

Never picked mushrooms, hedge berries and wild garlic is the limit of my Ray Mears wilderness skills.

Fairly sure these are parasols, so edible. But, you know, risk of a poisonous stomach aching death etc.

So, do I tuck in?

Yes, but the two may not be connected.

A Google picture search suggests they are Shaggy Parasol mushrooms and are edible and good for stuffing due to their concave caps.  Whether you trust that is up to you.

One rule with foraging mushrooms.  If you are not CERTAIN what they are do not eat them

Mushrooms are 90p a box in the CoOp but those look like shaggy parasols and may be edible but may be covered in dog piss.

White gills seem to be the thing to check for.

Dog piss is my biggest concern, ironically I picked the walking back from the CoOp

I was made ill as a child by my mum feeding us foraged mushrooms. Nearly put me off them for life.

A quick google suggests that while shaggy parasols are considered edible they can cause stomach upset and/or allergic reactions in some people.

Just isn’t worth it.

see here
I dont recall there being any deadly parasols in uk, I could be wrong.

Probably best picked in a dog free zone, fried with butter and garlic

I have seen a non-zero number of patients with life long disabilities following an intensive care stay from eating incorrectly identified mushrooms.

Unlikely but huge potential downside. Upside?

I stick to shop bought myself. Each to their own.
