nothing unusual; omlettes, salads, houmous, bean and panchetta soup, chicken and veg etc.

my body cannot deal with the day off/ the occasional slip - which unfortunately is inevitable (for me at least)

Unusual for you or unusual as in common foodstuffs?
What was the last meal before the illness? I can usually identify the food that gives me problems because 'the chicken smelled a bit iffy, the salmon might not have been cooked properly or the potato was a bit green'.
Definitely not the diet perse.

Is dijon mustard allowed? Have with steaks, but also in salad dressing...

I have trouble eating enough beans to do this, which is why I've allowed myself baked beans. If I don't have them for brekkie I'm into low-carb territory which has its own problems.

I tried the reduced sugar ones and they were grim, but I might try again with some other sort of seasoning in them like the Worcester Sauce idea.

But Molgrips if your not going to stick to the diet why break it with baked beans for breakfast when you could have something else that isn't full of sugar and has lots of carbs, like porridge. Would this not be better for aiding your weight loss?

Tobasco sauce? Or worcester sauce... anything to make the vile things palatable.

That's strange, I'd possibly have a word with the doc. But if you're intent on losing weight, I'd bin the rest day and continue on the diet for the 7 days.

Anyone else doing the cold showers? Supposed to induce cold adaptation resulting in better fat metabolism or something - only thing it's currently inducing is extreme verbal diarrhoea.

Where did you get the cold showers from?

Baked beans aren't full of sugar, there is SOME sugar in them. But also loads of protein and slow release carbs.

Porridge fills me up for about 30 minutes and end up having to play catchup all day, which is hard when I'm struggling to get enough slow carbs. If I have baked beans I am set for the whole day, with no hunger or energy issues.

My approach to the diet is not hard-line. A few slips here and there don't make much difference as far as I can tell.

Yeti - cold showers from my house, not golden showers.

When i was running lots, i often had an ice bath at the end. The only benefit(?) was my ex lol'ing at the swear words coming from the bathroom. It did nothing for my recovery but i did lose weight (suspect it was from lots of running, not the ice baths!)

Fair enough. I think finding what works for you is more important than sticking to any particular plan - as you obviously are.

Sorry if my post sounded a bit judgemental I was being quick as I had some work to do. Talking of which, as your on here again does this mean you have a new job?

Ice baths/cold showers do cause fat loss. It's not even close to being disputed - brown adipose tissue stimulated by exposure to cold metabolises white adipose tissue. But they're vile to do.

Why are Eskimos a bit fat then ?

They live in a freezer and only eat protein. Answer me that clever clogs.

Have done the cold shower thing a few times usually following weights or kettlebells session, it does make you swear a bit though. As iDave said, it's proper science and that, for more info see the 4 hour body book / website.
Just had scrambled egg cannelinii beans and salsa (again) with chickpea flabreads. What about fast carbs if you are riding ? I do a 10 mile each way bike commute 3 times a week, anyone know if and when u can have bread etc then?

So during and after exercise fast carbs are ok, are there restrictions on how long before and after and what u can eat?

You're supposed to eat carbs & protein within the hour after hard exercise to aid recovery. I'd recommend chocolate cake and ice cream.

Scruff 5 pints post ride seems fine, if you then crash into the canal on the way home you can have the added bonus of getting some cold water shiver therapy

Re the carbs after exercise - the promise of a coke or something sweet post ride is often the only thing that gets me out on a ride 🙂

Phil.w - no worries.. not exactly got a job yet but I've got a permie offer now from IBM that I'm not sure I want cos it's less money than contracting...

Philc - well.. me and mtb.. see the thing is, I am one of these people who crave new experiences. I like trundling around my local loops but after so many years it's just like.. well.. shaving, or doing the garden, you know?

That's why I'm training (or trying to) cos it gives me goals and focus. I'd be thrill seeking around the mountains of the world but with a young family that's going to have to wait. And if I take a permie job it'll have to wait a lot more!

Yeah.. I'd go out riding but I feel bad about leaving Mrs Grips. Not really fair on her currently for me to be zipping all over the place for a whole day at a time just to ride.
