How come no sweetcorn for you, Solo?

I've been through the first full weekly cycle.

I didn't start off with a "from weight"; I only have a "to weight". I'm not there yet, but seem to be heading in the right direction.

However, I put that down to having less total food slowly trawling through my intestines.

For a sugar king, I have to say that I'm not really missing the sweet stuff. Mainly because I'm managing to deal with some of the underlying emotional responses to food -

- no boredom snacking
- no comfort eating

I really looked forward to the "off" day (Sunday), but actually it wasn't the frenzy I thought it might be: sure, I ate toast with butter and honey, and homemade butter-free scones with jam, but I was back on a low GI meal in the evening.

Good stuff.

Keep it up.

It gets easier.

It gets easier.

Not been too hard so far. Need to revert to exercise, though - fitness is decidedly conspicuous by its absence and I'm about to make a fool of myself in the cross season.

My boss has just been on "the fetch" and brought back a great looking pork pie. Can I get away with just eating the filling?

Only 4 days in but no probs so far.

Breakfast has been gram flour flatbreads with scrambled egg and/or bacon

Lunch has been tuna and bean salads

Dinner was meat and two veg but tonight I made a chicken & lentil stew and the leftovers are lunch tomorrow.

No cravings at all and no desire to eat at any other time apart from mealtimes.

You are far too good at this.

We are more familiar with people buckling under the strain of change.
You're an iDave swat.
Long may you continue to enjoy your new dietary choices.
😉

Falling off the wagon aint so bad.

After all, at least you stepped aboard the wagon in the first place and even iDave has slipped...on the odd occassion.
😉

If you persist, falling off the wagon should become less frequent.

Ultimately, its all about how bad you want it

But, from where I am, its been a good trip.

Last Saturday lunch time I had a spinach and wild venison fillet steak salad.
It was sooooooo good I still think of it now.
*foodee sad-O*

Of course it helps that my neighbour shoots wild deer and is a national champion butcher.

😉

Keep the faith.

Slight slippage this evening - didn't know what to put with the glorious Natal red kidney bean curry I'd made for me and Mrs North, so I joined her in some wholegrain rice.

Slap my wrists, but beans with beans just felt wrong and I've had no other "carbs" today.

Still enjoying the diminished hunger between meals and reduced desire to snack.

Is lactose free milk ok? As I thought the lactose is what causes the insulin response in ordinary milk.
any ideas?

Nope, not me. Too much booze tends to be the one thing that gets me the next morning.

Have been making coleslaw with natural yoghurt (and wholegrain mustard) instead of mayo. Is nat yog allowed? Methinks not.

Either way, pork chop with coleslaw and a couple of fried eggs for breakfast rocks.

Not sure. Ingredients are natural yogurt and biogarde cultures.

Just use Mayonaise, but avoid the low fat variety because it has sugar added instead of fat.

I thought mayo was frowned upon for some reason (going back to the original thread last year)? That's what I was using then. Will happily revert back to it.

Quinoniona is actually OK but if you spill some uncooked on the kitchen floor it sticks in your bare feet all sharp like.

The original one posted by Mortivforz, or whatever their STW name was.
Is Ok.

As there are very few basic ingredients, once you have got the hang of making them, you just tweak it.

Personally my flatbreads were coming out a bit thick.
So I added more water.

I think some were adding egg.

Have a play, add some fresh ground cumin seed for instance.

😉

Delegate.

Get the Mrs to make them, or whomever was making the rice last night.

Flat breads should be quicker than rice anyway, IIRC.

😉

EDIT:

I'll have flat breads with a chilli too instead of rice.
Most excellent.

I made the curry and rice last night. Mrs North did bathtime with Baby North.

How long will they last if made in advance?

Not long if I make them. Minutes 😉

Not sure, think you can get a day or two out of them, by putting them in the bottom of the fridge, air tight container like a lock-n-lock box, etc.

Try it and see.

🙂

I make the chickpea flatbreads (see also recipes for farrinatas which is he recipe I been using) . I do them in round cake tins, do a batch of 4 or 8 tins most weeks. Slice them into 4 and you can keep for about a week, or freeze them, they taste good toasted with peanut butter on.

Gram wraps are a POP to make, and pretty nom nom when you get them right.

Indian: throw in some cumin seeds, caraway seeds, mustard seeds etc.
Med: throw in things like tarragon, thyme, marjoram, sage etc.

Anyone got a fool proof flat bread recipe?

I made about half a dozen at a time and just keep them in the fridge and reheat. Dead easy recipe

250g gram flour in a large bowl

Make a well in the middle and add about 50ml of olive oil

300ml of water in a jug

Started whisking the the flour and oil and add the water slowly until the mixture is smooth and not too thick but not too runny. 300ml of water works perfectly.

I add a bit of salt and pepper and I've put some rosemary in too which was lovely.

Non stick pan on a medium high heat.

Pour the mixture slowly into the pan until it spreads out and stops moving.

2 minutes on each side.

Repeat until all the mixture is used up

Done

Vodka is ok as long as you serve it with tomato juice, not fruit juice.
