At Scouts this week we're going to be getting them to try out different types of camping stoves (Trangias, gas, some poor sods will get a Primus etc) and they'll heat some water on them all and then make themselves something to eat.
I've got some proper 'expedition meal' things bought, and there's the obvious Pot Noodle/Supernoodles stuff, plus I thought about couscous, any other ideas? I'm not really after recipes, I'm after packet stuff (and available from the supermarket)
Cup-a-soup! 😀
Added croutons are available for the kids that like cous cous.
Couscous and pot noodle/supernoodle are the most obvious options
Others would be smash based wares, or something like cup-a-soup with pasta in or mug based pasta. Usually all in the same section
The other option is boil in the bag type stuff, then just drop it in the water. You could do any can based thing, plus stuff like "look what we found" or other asian meals in a bag (see the ethnic/world food aisle)
Soba Noodles are the best of the 'Pot Noodle' type of foods.
Gnocchi?

Gone are the days of 50/50 coffee/rum*
It's all self heating packs, with added hi carb/protein snacks these days.

*Only kidding ๐
Instant porridge. Some in packets, some in plastic cups to literally just add the water.
Idahoan cheesy mashed potato. Yes, I was skeptical, it's bloody good!
I know you want supermarket stuff but cheap porridge to prepare in bags:
45g Porridge Oats (or more if you want more)
20g Skimmed Milk Powder
1 Teaspoon Sugar (unless you like it unsweetened)
Waz it through a food processor to make it fine and able to soak up the hot water quickly. Mix of dried fruit, seeds and nuts afterwards if you want a bit extra.
Otherwise Mugshots (lots of variety just add water) pasta and sauce packets usually about 50p each.
Pasta 'n' Sauce in pots worked well for me a few weeks ago as quick "tent" food.
(Trangias, gas, some poor sods will get a Primus etc)
Of those, I'd take the Primus every time.
Angel delight.
Yep, make it with warm water.
Or instant custard.
Good move improves when it's -5 and pissing it down

Ye gads. ๐ฏ
Siva and Naked noodles are better than supernoodles etc. The Naked Ramen soups are pretty good, too. It's summer - packet of savoury rice with water a finger's width above it, brought to the simmer while stirring in a tin of tuna, then wrap it in a hat or fleece for 20 minutes and the rice will cook off without using any more fuel.
Siva = Soba.
BenjiM has my tip.
Porridge - 60g / 226 kcal
Nuts - 20g / 131 kcal
Dried fruit - 40g / 120 kcal
Milk - 15g / 50 kcal
Totals 135g / 527 kcal
Whizz it in a mixer for a minute to break down the oats and make them easier to rehydrate.
Put the mix into a Pour and Store bag.
Pour on hot water, squidge around to mix, then leave for a few minutes. I pack an insulated foil bag to keep it hot during the wait.
Oh - and another vote for Idahoan mash.
Hotdogs the ones you boil, would work well with some smash or just in rolls with mustard and red sauce ๐
SMASH of course !
Huel hot flavours - the mild curry and Mexican chilli are nice and other bits and bobs can be added to them.
Idahoan mash and hot dogs.
We have a winner.
Huel hot flavours
Can you just buy Huel now? I've always kinda fancied trying it but they seem to be in the bulk buy / subscription game.
SMASH of course !
Took some camping a couple of weekends ago. It's defintely got a weird texture but doesn't taste too bad and it appears to be seasoned already.
Porridge and hot chocolate powder.
why have I never heard of Idahoan mash before
(used to live on smash as a student)
These are tasty and widely available:

So long as the flavours aren't a bit 'out there' - some are a bit spicy.
Random bowls of instant ramen from your local asian supermarket.
Bonus points if you can find the korean fire breathing chicken flavour.

Supermarkets stock them, maybe morrisons or asda.
Dont follow the instructions though, it's American(Idaho) and they seem to prefer it very very runny, so it states a lot of liquid and butter in its ingredients to add.
Comes in different flavours- cheese, chives, onion etc
Ainsley Harriott is a very annoying man, but his packets of cous cous are yummy.
It's pretty buttery tasting tbh as it is!.
Don't do naked noodles or pot nigels, they'll have seen that, the mash n hot dogs is at least a bit different.
Heat a tin of Heinz 5 beanz, pour into a pack of ready cooked mexican rice.
My speciality is a take on an Americans thru-hiker recipe I found on YouTube. They call it ramen bomb.
Filling, spicy, salty, cheesy and easy. Needs a little prep though.
Mylar pouches bought off ebay.
Packet of mama Tom yum noodles
Half a packet of idahoan cheese mash
Half a pack of kabanos chopped up small.
Spoonful of wonton soup stock
All packaged up and sealed in mylar pouch.
Boil 400ml water pour in,reseal and squidge about and use to warm hands.
