[Closed] Ideas for company name needed..... Prize on offer.

Hi

I'm looking to use the creativity of the STW hive mind and pass the ideas off as my own in an attempt to look good and win influence.

We're starting an offshoot of the company that needs to be branded entirely differently for unimportant and boring reasons - and it needs a name....

The offshoot will be selling training and employment services to companies. The name needs to be:

- Original
- Memorable (we're going out selling it)
- Generic (eg, not really mentioning training/employment, etc.)
- Professional, but not an cheesey Apprentice style name like Pulse, Fusion, etc.
- Have that certain something about it

If I/we use the idea then a bottle of Bollinger/Ardbeg (or equivalent of your choice) is all yours.

Fire away!

The problem you've got there is that everything that fits all those criteria has already been done.

Fruit seems popular at the moment. Call it "Pomegranate."

Or have a look through here: http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/man-words

Cube, then make up some crap about it covering all the angles.
Fluid/liquid, again, you can make corporate crap about how it moves with your business needs.

Colin is perfect apart from the originality side of things. I'll put iColin on the long list.

Some kind of provenance would also be good so it can be explained where it came from. Eg, Google comes from Googol which is a massive number - perfect for something searching the entire internet.

Maybe a word in a non mainstream foreign language (STW loves a niche) would work well....

Colin isn't generic enough.

How about Leslie? Covers both sexes so therefore generic

Singletrack.

it implies you and the customer are following one path to success (and all that guff), it is also fun, swoopy, exciting and allows you to have a cool logo with the S being a swoopy trail. Maybe use the T as a tree to give you some green credentials. IF people ask about it, you can give lots of boring mountain bike analogies!

sorry chaps.

I quite like Scientia but it comes across (unsuprisingly) as more scientific than sales/training/employment. Good, but not quite there.

experientia docet is a bit too wordy/academic I think.

"Singletrack" would have been good!

Colin

Colin (a.k.a. part #223219B) is a small, round, melon-sized, flying security robot which Ford Prefect enslaves to aid in his escape from the newly re-organized Guide offices in the novel Mostly Harmless. "Its motion sensors are the usual Sirius Cybernetics garbage." Ford captures Colin by trapping the robot with his towel and re-wiring the robot's pleasure circuits, inducing a cyber-ecstasy trip.
Ford uses Colin's cheerfulness to break into the Guide's corporate accounting software in order to plant a Trojan Horse module that will automatically pay anything billed to his InfiniDim Enterprises credit card. Colin also saves Ford's life when the Guide's new security force, the Vogons, fire at him with a rocket launcher after Ford feels the need to jump out of the window. Colin was last seen being sent (at the risk of possible lonely incineration) to look after the delivery of the Guide Mark II to Arthur Dent in the Vogon's postal system.
Colin was named after a dog which belonged to a girl, Emily Saunders, of whom Ford had fond memories. Colin appears in the novel Mostly Harmless, and in the radio series he was played by Andrew Secombe.

Perfect

Really - you're starting a new company and put the naming/branding out to a public forum?

Best of luck with that. Nice strategic move there.

I think a public forum is an excellent place to create and share new ideas Andy.

I like Sentient but feel one would spend the entire time spelling it over the phone!
