Pearl Barley - anyone????????

IIRC the iDave diet cuts out grains.
Day off not withstanding.
I've certainly removed grians from my diet.
Well... cept for beer.

Quinoa: in
Lentils: in - a staple
Pearl barley: out

Don't try replicating traditional meals with substitutes imo. Just make different food that doesn't include the starchy stuff. You only want bread/potatoes/rice etc because it's habit. Ingrained, if you like (see what I did there?)

Yes, yes, very clever ๐Ÿ™‚

Grips !, how you doing ?.

Have you been keeping pace with the other thread ?.
Last time I checked it was going quite well, even for STW.

Which other thread? There's another iDiet thread?

Top tip for all you newbies - poppadoms are in, being made of gram flour.

Doing ok but not so well with the diet.

Ok, so its 6 pages now, but you might spend your time reading lesser threads.
So, give it a go.

Diet, for weight control is one thing, as you know.
But you were experimenting with carbs around training sessions.
To the extent that you had improved, significantly, your time for running over a certain distance.
Have you now fine tuned the carb requirement thats right for you, to achieve the performance you're seeking ?.

iDave actually responded to me today and explained his carb strategy for an upcoming event he will participate in.
It was useful info, for me.

Last nights dinner,

Keema peas with cauliflower rice, chick pea curry and baked onion bhajis!

http://lowcarbdiets.about.com/od/lowcarbsidedishes/r/caulirice.htm
http://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/chickpeacurry_2213
http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/461642/keema-with-peas
http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/16164/baked-onion-bhajis.aspx

My family loved it, especially the bhajis(I added more spice than the recipe.)

I'm over three months in on the idave thing and it is natural for me now, I wont go back to eating crap carbs except on cheat day. For success you need to think long term and get away from the traditional 'diet' mindset. It is not a bean diet, just eat your normal meals, but with low gi carb alternatives. Experiment and if you make something tasty post it on here so we can all try it.

molgrips, just read your contradicting post and have to disagree, my low gi cottage pie rocks, as does my chicken leek and bacon. I say go with the alternative traditional stuff and find new food to eat, best of both and all that. ๐Ÿ™‚

I think that is a good approach to getting into the iDiet groove.

I've never felt better to be honest and I eat so much more veg now. My main limiting factor is my imagination, so it is great to use other peoples. It was my first go on the cauli rice yesterday and I must say I'm impressed, there are just so many ways you can use it too!

At the begining my shopping bills went up, but now I'm a bit more clued up not only is the weekly main shop quicker, it is cheaper too. If I could be bothered soaking beans it would be cheaper still, but usually I don't bother.

I'm fancying some roasted chicken, chorizo, peppers, mushrooms, onions, butter nut squash drizzled in chilli oil and balsamic for dinner, damn this idiet! ๐Ÿ˜€

Last night I made a cauliflower and squash curry, I blanched the above while frying up onion, garlic, peppers, mushrooms with some Thai type spices. I added the softened veg, poured in a little coconut milk (I use the powdered Maggi stuff from the ethnic aisle in Tesco, and you don't need much) and we had that just with a pork chop.

Fantastic, filling meal.

Going well here as well now I have got the mrs buying the right stuff. cottag(ing) pie last night with a butter bean, cauli, carrot, broccoli, chick pea and parsnip mash on top was superior to any cottage pie I have ever had. It did cause a triple flusher this morning though! 3 weeks in and 12lb off. I have a brewery trip tomorrow night just a couple of hundred yards from idave palace.... and wendyball saturday ๐Ÿ˜ฏ cheat maybe on the cards...

The bhajis are great, but I recommend upping the spices, also keep checking them so they don't burn.

I will give your curry a go soon bigjohn, one of the great things about all this is you learn to use and appreciate veg more. Also there is something really nice about knowing exactly what you are eating, no additives or hidden nasties. I've never been a fan of celery or squash in the past, but love them now!

well I'm new joinee to. Day 5 in and quite enjoying it. If the scales are to beleived I'm 7 lbs down this am. TBH I'm a little concerned it'll lead to crash and burn. I've not been cutting back on my main meals really, just all the snacks and stuff in between.

It also chimes with the I really must start cooking for myself and stop relying on all this prepacked processed shite...

Need to find me half a dozen of staple/banker recipes. Currently eating a lot of soup... Tried the bean or pea/tuna/salad thing a couple of times too.

Gonna try that chick pea curry tonight I think.

My shopping last night must have been the healthiest ever for me as it was all fresh veg, spices and beans...

The knowing theres no additivies is also a bonus... ๐Ÿ˜€

Managed a 4 hour run on black coffee and a couple of boiled eggs today.

I'll admit I was hungry afterwards, but I survived...

Today's food:

Brekkie - eggs and sausage
Lunch - more eggs and peas (not very creative that one)
3 tiny choccies
Pre-workout - coke
1 hour run
Post-workout - coke
Dinner - Huge plate of cauli, green beans and carrots with some lamb shoulder
Bedtime - toast (oops)

I'm really getting my veg in on this diet!

No, cos I went on a run. It's right there in the diet plan, you have simple carbs around your exercises.

Molly - you're awful at following the rules.

I'm a convert though now. I feasted on delicious iDiet compliant meals Saturday and Sunday cooked by a pioneering iChef.

This morning I weigh 160lbs so have lost 4lbs in 2 days... what's not to like. Plus I still get to sit here eating porridge as I've swam this morning.

Legs are fine - back is a little stiff though. Bloody Garmin conked out so I have no record of the ride though, which is annoying!

How about you?

Also, did you manage to draft much on the way round? I was on my own for all but 10k.

58kg on Saturday morning. Pretty pleased with how stable my weight has remained as I've hardly been taking any exercise for the last four months. I'm just starting to up the effort and distance now the calf /achilles injury is at last over, it's definitely feeling stonger each day.
