I'm putting a new radio etc in an 01 Laguna. Any thoughts about whether I can just plug in the harnesses as they are, even though wire colours do not always match up? Or will it all go bang if I don't connect like to like (not that there's not a mate for all)?!?
You'll possibly need an ISO converter, but maybe not. You may need an antenna converter as they come in two styles. Assuming the laguna isnt a 6-8 channel system as standard it will likely be a straight swap.
Yup need the antenna converter.... Everything's ISO, so I'll just swap it all over.
I thought you need a loom to go between the car wiring and the new stereo?
When i changed the stereo in my last car I had to get an adaptor that said something like 'Fiesta (92-02) > Kenwood' on it.
Or has that all changed now?
depends if some chump has rewired the loom like they had in my golf. that kept me confused for a hour or so....
stumpy - depends on your cars original wiring. Sometimes stereos have their own style connector, sometimes the car does. These days it seems like they're both standardising for the "normal" funtions and extras are provided on a seperate connector. It's hard to tell without first removing the standard unit, but I've done a couple recently where the stereo came with the relevant connectors/converters already in the box.
Go to Halfords, look in the book @ the Audio stand and buy the connector loom that it says for your model of car and the stereo you have.
The Stereo end should be universal ISO if it's new.
Simples
Every car is different but the iso adpater is the std.
Sometimes you might need an adpater.
In his case its an iso and just needs antenna plug hence saving him cash for bike bling!
