He must have a foot like a traction engine!

Just an instinctive, fancy lob into an empty net really.

Impressive but not deserving of the hype it's been given today (not Ibrahimovich's fault obviously).

Can someone post Gigg's goal where he went from the half way line. I'm a hammer but that's the best goal I've seen.

Ok. I've seen lots better. Besides, he's admitted to being a prolific bike thief in his earlier years. Off with his head!!

Viera, whoah-oh
Viera, whoah-oh
He gave Giggsy the ball
An Arsenal won **** all

🙂

Ibrahimovic's is spectacular, but is more fluke than skill. Sinclair's is better, but for me Giggs or Gascoigne take it.

So he got 4 yellow cards in the game? Surprised the ref didn't send him off. Twice.

Not THE best ever... but a fine fine goal that I will not tire of watching

"Part of the genius (for want of a better word) is the fact that he even considered going for it. "

This is what makes it for me ... most would look to bring that ball down and turn to face goal to then either shoot or play someone in.

Great goal, brilliant technique. Although not even close to being the best overhead kick of all time. Usual press hyperbole.

The following are all better examples:

Van Basten - Ajax v Den Bosch
Mauro Bressan - Fiorentina vs Barcelona
Trevor Sinclair - QPR v Barnsley
Rivaldo - Barca v Valencia (completed a hatrick and meant qualification for the Champions League)
Hugo Sanchez - take your pick, he's got a compilation of them
Klaus Fischer was another brilliant overheadkickerer

But it was a friendly, against an English goalie, which takes the shine off it a little.
50 seconds in is a good measure of how consistant he is in competitive matches, which is about the same as he was for Sweden the other night!

Yeah but a cocky player a goal up with seconds to go in a friendly.. you'd expect it wouldn't you?

If you're are taking this goal in context ... last minute/game won/friendly etc ... then you have to take into account he'd already hit the net 3 times

I'd take this one I think. Perhaps not as remarkable a shot but a brilliant piece of football theatre.

just to add my two pennies worth.
Agreed its not the best goal ever but these things are totally subjective. Do you prefer :
1) A mazy dribble from inside the player own half followed by rounding the keeper and slotting home?
2) Superb volley from a tight angle?
3) Great team play and passing which destroys the opposition followed by a simple tap in?
I think the thing is with this goal was that he definitely intended to do it and succeeded. The fact that he was watching Joe Hart rushing out and calculated where the header was going, positioned himself accordingly, made the appropriate calculations of where the goal was and that there was no defender in sight. Then had the most incredible technique, skill power to actually pull off the shot was incredible.
I agree he may not be able to do this every time but so far he`s got a 100% record at it!
Great goal worth celebrating - especially because you can watch hours and hours of football without seeing anything good let alone great.
Well done him.

I'd expect him to do it in injury time in a World Cup final at 1-1. Your lack of appreciation of skillz notwithstanding, this makes it less good how?

As as Scotsman it pains me to admit it, but Gazza against us at Euro 96 is probably the best goal I've ever seen. Sublime skill and he humiliated Goram.

Not the greatest goal ever, but he was class.

Ginola against Barnsley

Would 89th minute of a World Cup Quarter final do it for you?

I prefer this one tbh.

European Cup final, millions of people watching, ball in the air an age. His arse must have been nipping a touch!
