Isn't the UK's fusion research funded by EPSRC?
They probably get their money from the Atomic research group or whatever they're called now, a very wealthy organisation.

they aren't EPSRC plc then, by any chance? Thought not...

Private companies rarely do anything but the very last step in progress in terms of science. Fusion is way too far off for them yet.
