The scratches on the demo car said otherwise!! And both wing mirrors (ripped off).

But the actual measurements say 39mm wider.

Even the dealer said it's got rather larger.

It has.

39mm larger. 🙂

Hardly sufficient to have everyone ripping the wings off and smashing the mirrors is it ?

That's just shit drivers, nothing to do with the size of the car.

What a weird thread. I keep checking back to see if someone's explained the joke yet.

I'm with unknown and raceface. What the chuff is going on? At least the OP put pictures in, but I'm still none the wiser. Time for a pedal.

No, I think we're just ignoring the lack of joke now and going off on the usual tangent about how inappropriate MINI is as a name for these. Personally I refer to them as MIDIs.

Though actually a thought just occurred to me, and checking the dimensions all current MINIs are wider and taller, and a Countryman is larger in all dimensions than...

an Austin Maxi

So MAXI it is then.

Most sensible post so far, and one I totally agree with. MINI, as a model name, should be investigated by Teading Standards, because it quite clearly isn't. And quite why anyone would buy such a huge car with such poor cabin capacity is beyond me, just standing behind one and seeing how much the pillars are inset at the car's waistline, and how much they slope inwards shows this.
And they're truly ugly, but considering how totally lacking in style BMW's have been over the last couple of decades, this isn't a surprise.
I've always wanted to win one in a competition, just so I could go and trade it in straight away for a much nicer car, like a DS3, which shares much of the running gear, and platform, apparently.
Certainly far, far better styling.

The 2014 mini is only 39mm wider than the 2000 model.

You might want to check up on that. The 2000 was the last of original style model.

Oh wait I see what you mean now, she has the first of the revamp. 😳

I just read the Wikipedia link in the OP. No mention of Minis there either. 😕

"Oh how my two boys laughed and pointed the 5 year old said its not a Land rover so whats it doing off road ! "

Does he point and laugh at Landrovers and ask why people who are not ragging around Helmand province or maintaining the empire have them?

What is more worth of ridicule is all the people driving around in large 4x4s that will never take them off-road, or even drive in challenging conditions.

Does that car park really count as offroad ???

Man and sons see two minis in muddy car park, spot that they're not Landrovers....

Is that it?

Is it a 'countryman' but it's not really in the countryside but looks like it is.

To be honest I don't mind the Mini estates/countryman. I wouldn't buy one, but drive well and don't look too bad at all.

The bigger one, I "get" as in 4x4 are quite fashionable, and so are Minis, so combine the two and you have a car that should sell well.

In terms of the joke, i'm really not sure. But Trent Park is a good place for a CX smash.

The joke could be that someone has bought a countryman, as they are such ugly looking cars.

It's not even very muddy. Have taken lots of normal cars into far muddier car parks and down far muddier tracks. Am wondering whether OP has a Landrover for taking places like that, and I should actually be laughing at him.

That did cross my mind.

And if that s the case, no wonder he hasn't been back to explain the joke 🙂

Is it a posey place and the cars are a a bit posey/fake 4x4 and not in keeping with the OPs off road ideal? I have a friend that sneers at North Face jackets worn by dog walkers in nature parks. Are the cars a but too 'north face' for the OP?

Ah! I've got it now. It's because Trent Park is in London and Unfit thinks that car park is off roading.

Theocb is just pretending he gets the joke to be cool.

It has to be the fact it is a countryman - every time I see one of those I think "I hope to god he got a good discount on it..."
