Well done on the rescue red thunder. Bonus karma points heading your way. What did you use to cut the barbed wire? Any news on your feathered friend?

Those pictures brought tears to my eyes. You can see the pain in its eyes even though they are closed.

Thank you for doing what you did.

Owl update:

Just spoke to the Oak & Furrows and the owl survived the night and it is with a specialist vet now.

Sustained damage to its shoulder area and the wing was serious lacerations.

It has a good chance of survival. However, if it makes it and it cant be returned to the wild as a healthy bird it will still have to be put down ๐Ÿ™

Thats a bit sucky..:(

Fingers crossed for a full recovery.

I got to ring back Tuesday for more updates.

Fingers crossed he makes it..

Can't he go to a sanctuary or something..

If not.. He can come live in my flat if he likes.. Would be a great riding buddy.. Way better than that shitty drone I bought.

Fingers and toes crossed.

Nothing like http://www.newforestwildlifepark.co.uk/ nearby (formerly known as Owl & Otter Sanctuary), if not fit to release back to wild?

Are you even allowed to keep owls as pets ?
Bit unfair to stick one in a budgie cage , but outdoors in an aviary with a box.
Bit harsh to kill it , but then if it cannot hunt it will starve to death over winter anyway

Report:

It is with great regret that I have to report the owl has died ๐Ÿ™

He/She passed away under anethestic, however the actual surgery went well and looked good up to that point.

At least it did'nt die strung up on barbed wire.

RIP Olly or Ollyette

That's such a shame, beautiful birds. Well done for doing all you could do, it'll be watching you closely from owl heaven.

Quite a few owls in the local woods that I enjoy watching on night time walk with the dogs, the joystick exposure on max power doesn't seem to affect/scare them in the slightest

Sad news ๐Ÿ™
You did a great thing, though, giving it a chance of survival and, at the very least, not leaving it to die a slow, painful death on barbed wire.

You're a legend in my book nonetheless, thanks for sharing. Cannot stand seeing suffering, your kindness made a grey day brighten.

That second picture has to become a meme

No.

Very sad outcome.
You did a sterling Job.

Tawney owls are my favourite birds. However please be aware that they are dangerous in the nesting season, thinking nothing of attacking a person near its owlets.

Thanks for doing what you could, very sad it has ended this way

I have seen more owls this year than in my whole life, I think they might be my favourite bird now. Beautiful fascinating creatures

Shame, but that outcome was guaranteed if you hadn't intervened, at least you gave it a chance.

You did all you could (and more) so don't beat yourself up.

Definitely speak with a taxidermist about getting it stuffed, wings spread in a swooping pose and hang in your stairwell.
