I put together the website for an idea I've had for a while - to create a searchable online directory of craft beer places - breweries, bars, bottle shops etc.

And here it is:
www.craftbeerlist.co.uk

Could you guys give it a little look over and give me some feedback? I've spent a grand total of 6 hours on it, so it's pretty new and there are only 3 test listings on there, but you should get the idea.

If anyone wants to submit a listing that would be good too - just to test that functionality.

Whether the feedback is technical or conceptual, I'm all ears.

Longer term, I'm looking at doing reviews/getting people to write articles and then once I have content and traffic, looking at ways to create a package for a bar/brewery owner to pay for to get advanced features for their listings.

That's a little down the line though.

In 2017 I decided to go to university and started an MSc in Brewing & Distilling at Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh, Evidently my brewing habit is taking over.

Capitalisation error found = I am awesome.

Good luck with your venture:-)

I've been looking for something like this, ie a website where I can put in my fave beer and see which pubs sell it! I look forward to expanding the listings ๐Ÿ™‚

I did consider having a tap list for the listings. I think that functionality would be part of the paid-for listing package I'll eventually offer

Ooo, everyone gets to be a critic. Love these threads ๐Ÿ™‚

Nice site, you land right where you want to be - the search above the fold and it doesn't seem to restrictive in what you type, Edinburgh or Leith works equally. Seems clean, straightforward and doesn't jump around all over the place as you scroll down.

However you are competing against a lot of other stuff when you type in 'craft beers Edinburgh' so unless you crank up the SEO a bit you will suffer I would think. https doesn't work so points lost and no alt text on images so even more lost there. The image on this page http://craftbeerlist.co.uk/blog/welcome-to-the-craft-beer-list/ should have text saying something like 'Craig drinking a cool craft beer' or something like that to match the text around. You know the score. For even more points try running the site through an accessibility checker

What I would really want though for each pub I would like a recommendation of what I should try there - maybe up to 3 but not a huge menu as that is overwhelming

Remember - right now I can pull up google maps on my phone, type in craft beer and get a map of all of the craft beer places near me. It's got to offer more than that. But the idea is good and I like the idea of something that would tell me what is good/unusual/unique to drink in a particular pub

Ooooh, this is interesting, cos it combines my work (digital proposition design, and yes, that is a terribly ****y title), and my pleasure (drinking beer).

I've had a quick look and have some thoughts, but I'm off to bed. I'll be back tomorrow...

Do you mean the tone of the background, or the amount of white space?

Hi, just had a quick look. I found the search clunky.

I initially put the location , hackney, in 'what are you looking ' . Perhaps it's early morning here but I thought 'what I was looking' ... for? Was beer...i.e we know that already no? no joy so put in Hackney in location, nothing else.

That then took me to a refine your search screen, dog friendly , other options etc. I clicked a random box, got one result , in hackney I.e central London, which didn't actually tell me what I was looking at.it was a map that was zoomed in too far and '1 result'. So in the days of short attention spans, I would have given up and just googled craft beer hackney.

Good luck!

Do you have a definition of craft beer? In all seriousness.

Agree on the background being too white. Looks a little cold when you think about a snug pub and a craft beer.
The map also seems to get lost in it a bit.
I think a warmer colour might work well.

You could also just detect my location and fill it in so the map showed me nearby places immediately

Thanks for all the feedback!
Have enacted a couple of bits of it, and am mulling over the rest - definitely some solid suggestions there.

Has anyone tried submitting a listing? Any thoughts on that?

If anyone wanted to write a beer/bar/brewery review or an article of some kind, let me know - can set you up with a author login!
