One of the hydraulic hoses for my log splitter just burst. The hole is small. Is it possible to cut the hose either side and fit a repair coupling in or do I need to replace the whole length.

Jubilee clip and bit of rubber over the hole?

You can repair them as you say but if it's burst once it will go again so just have a new one made up.
Post a pic as I'm trying to decide what splitter to buy at the moment.

wwaswas isn't far wrong, mine was a DIY scrapheap challenge. The only thing I'd change (and indeed had to change) was the U section main post for an I or H section. The original flexed and eventually bent.

I found the hydraulic power pack on ebay.

Interesting. I've got a tractor and something that could be used as a base already but by the time I've got the DA ram, spool valve, splitting head and other metalwork it might not be that economical seeing as i could get a brand new one for about £400.
Is that all cut with a chainsaw or go you have a bench saw as well?

Sharkbait,

It should be possible to build one cheaply. I made the splitting head myself and got a second hand ram for £80.

I cut everything with my chainsaw, however some of my wood comes in plank back form from the sawmill.

I might modify it by adding trailer wheels and a tow hitch so I can help my brother start splitting his woodpile.

Back to the OP, it seems you cannot repair the hoses, or they wont repair them. My local supplier quoted £150 + VAT for just the hoses, I just bought a new pair complete with the flat faced couplings for £80 on ebay.

I would not try to repair a hydraulic hose, too much pressure would be involved for a decent repair

Not sure how you would repair it, most hydraulic hose suppliers will not repair hoses in fact i dont know any that will!. You certainly cant use a jubilee clip on hydraulic hose (well you can but it will blow off!) Best to replace with new and assuming its not too big they are generally not too expensive. Just take in the burst one and they normally make it there and then (assuming they have the parts).
