Going to bin Virgin TV but keep the BB which had always been great... and the landline as got no choice there.

Not used an aerial in forever.

Pretty standard chimney stack install really. Old aerial removed long ago.

Not a clue on prices for this sort of stuff!

Live in the SE so it'll be dearer down here I'm guessing. Bah!

Do you have a loft? If so and you don't need high gain or a huge pole mount stick up in the loft.

We do but all the houses up here seem to have their aerials mounted pretty high up on a pole. We are in a bit of a dip here.

I think when I had my decades-old shit one replaced with something that worked reliably with DTV it was about £120.

Where you are geographically in relation to the broadcast antenna will dictate what type of aerial you need, there's a handful of different ones.

Cheers mate, I was thinking that's about the money involved.

Looking up our road there is an amazing variety of aerials!

Worth asking a fitter for a price. We got charged about £150 (but 10 years ago in the North East) to get one fitted when ours fell off. It was a 2 1/2 story terrace and the cost of fitted was not worth the DIY time or risk (added less than £50 and probably only £20).
Long story short, ring a local fitter and ask for a price.

Jumping on the thread - we've old satellite dish that needs (I think) a realign and new LNB + cable.

It's awkward to reach - on a gable end above single storey sloping roof.

Idea of cost to replace?

OP, if the Virgin TV has a dish and cables (from LNBs) running into your house, you can pick up a freesat box which will use those cables, removes the need for an aerial.

I think you are confusing Virgin with Sky, virgin are a cable TV company.

If you are keeping the BB, why not just get a Fire Stick and stream TV?

Incidentally,

Have you actually looked at VM's pricing for broadband without TV? When I signed up they had crazy-ass bundles where the more you got, the cheaper it was. Eg, I have a "land line" with them which I didn't want, turns out that it's (presumably) a VoIP connection with a dongle hanging out the back of the router, but it like halved the bundle price. You might find it's cheaper to get the base Virgin TV package than bin it completely.

Also, why do you need a landline?
