Look around at any trailcenter and about 80-90 percent maybe more of the mountainbikers are male and many of the females that are there are only there because their other half is a mountainbiker. That doesn't leave many women seriously interested in mountainbiking. And then there is the fact that internet forums on any subject are generally frequented by men. Combine these two facts and you will see why there are so few females on here. Although there a few women I've seen on here.

I'm on here when I'm not stuck in the office! But I'm a "proper" MTBer I started at 13 and have been serious since, used to race nationally and now do downhilling in Morzine every summer! Have been with other half for last 6 years after we met at 24 hour race (SITS) when I stepped in at the last minute to fill a space on the team! I cannot imagine dating a bloke that isn't into MTBing ... I LOVE it more than anything .. so much fun!!!

It could be argued that half the people at trails centres aren't proper mountain bikers. I've ridden with women that will put a lot men to shame on the trails. It's funny watching the men try to keep up with them thinking they can take them.

Me too! Only just got round to re-registering.
Mountain biked for 10 years or more, does't mean I'm any good tho! (I bake good cakes to make up for my slowness)
Can't even do that at the moment ๐Ÿ™ Off the bike due to surgery on my hand. Looks like it'll be a while yet too...... ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Better phrased as two questions, i.e. "How many women? Are they on STW?"

Good for assessing any situation, imo.

@Spesh99 - I dont think there are any women that would want to post on here if they weren't into mountain biking.

Though my other half got me into biking, I have always been outdoorsy and I can see how that would lead women into mountain biking.

Not heard from Bunnyhop, Bumley, Clarey, Mamadirt, Mrs Flash and so on for ages.

I miss 'em, they made the place more civilised.

anna, you must have started the single geekyest titled thread in the history of STW!

"Bulk image file size reduction - Mac"

There are less geeky subections of the mandelbrot set!

only on STW could you get a topic giving information about how to shrink your porn stash to make room for more porn. Allongside such ultimate questions as.....................

is 2 girls 1 cup for real? or is it chocolate ice cream?

And another girlie here, but I post much less frequently than I used to, and given I've been off the bike since August last year, due to a dodgy knee, I don't feel much like a mtb'er at the moment... But come summer I hope to be back to my full strength.

Must restart the Friday Bloke thread...

I hope some of you girls will be coming to the Big bike Bash. I don't much fancy a weekend of live music, biking and beer festival with just 500 other blokes.

And I have ordered seperate toilet and shower blocks so you are not contaminated with man cleaning.

I've been around for years, only occasional poster, and changed my name with the new forum.

I love getting out and riding, but I'm not interested in bikes as such, so I rarely post on the bike forum. Luckily I have a Mr Cooroo (aka StuE) to maintain, fettle and clean the bikes.

It's a good forum for a woman to just lurk on, you get a lot of insight into the male psyche. Or to be fair, lots of male psyches.

I lurk. But then my work doesn't involve computers much (except for the end user!) so I rarely go on the internet!

Well I'm totally new and I'm not a lurker!

I've counted at least 10 or 11 ladies on just this thread, so I reckon there are more out there than the fellas thought.
Lets make this "our" thread!

Anyone live in the south-east as I am trying to drum up some gals to come to Bedgeburys women only training course on the 14th and 21st March.

http://www.boarsonbikes.co.uk/courses.html

any takers? should be fun!

I know a couple of ladies who are in to mountain biking and were registered on here before the hack. However unlike a lot of the blokes on here they posted when they wanted a specific piece of information or advice, rather than wasting away their lives debating the merits of various tyre treads.

That too...

Flexgirl nice to meet you. I come from south east but ran away to Yorkshire many years ago. Rode at Bedgebury once, and wasn't madly impressed, but it should be fine for training. Enjoy!
