So I've a new Oak front door in the living room, waiting to be painted.
Not sure regarding coats and finishes and would like a nudge in the right direction.
My plan was to use approx 2 coats of Sikkens Rubbol Primer Plus, or an aluminium wood primer and then 2 coats of valspar / farrow and ball exterior wood paint in the good ladies chosen colour.
Does this sound about right?

Make sure you get Building Control sign off once fitted.
Didn't realise this was a thing until I moved house.
Fit it first to size and re fit old door, while you paint the new one, paint all over in all holes and apertures top and bottom edges, and if its a oak faced chipboard core door, expect it to last only a few years when exposed to weather.

Isn't that only if you also change the frame?
Hanging a new door in an existing frame didn't need it.
Not that anyone will notice / care.

But why pay all the extra for Oak and then hide away the lovely grain you've just paid a premium for?
Doesn't make any sense to me.
You could just leave it untreated or oil it.
it may be an oak veneered chipboard core cheap door from one of the diy sheds, as opposed to a craftsman made solid oak door with mortice and tennon joints.
