My house is up for sale and has been for a few months. I have had a bit of interest but no offers as yet. I have seen a place i love and am keen to buy it.
I have a good relationship with the new house owner as have been to see the place several times and have said i would very much like to buy it but not discussed prices etc. So my question is is it the done thing to maybe try and work out with her a price for her place then (hopefully) reduce my house price inline with that to encourage a sale? None of this would be done via the estate agent in the first instance. Im not greedy i dont want over market value for my house, just the correct amount to buy this new place
Any advice, experiences or tips much appreciated.

Don't see why not. We did similar - told the agent what we could afford, decided what needed to give and by who.
yes I think house buying works best when buyer and seller can discuss it. The seller might quite like you as a buyer and settle for a little bit less than they originally hoped for (don't expect miracles though).
Could you make your property more saleable, get a friend in for an honest opinion on what could be improved for minimum cost, just simple stuff like tidying away clutter can make a big difference.
Not saying your house is a tip mind, more to do with my own gaff. 🙂
