When we took out our mortgage on the apartment we used a fantastic company called www.pannone.com (if you're looking at buying I'll give you a brilliant contact there!) and they were faultless, I'm not often impressed by legal firms but this little lot were brilliant.

But this is a strange thing...

(sorry hit the Send Post button)

Every year a cheque arrives from them for, and I quote " Further to your purchase of the above property I am pleased to enclose a cheque in the sum of £54.19 being the interest accrued on your account.", Not to look a gift horse in the mouth and al that, and it may be that we lost the last cheque that was sent and thus never cashed it, but why are they sending me money??

any guesses? not that I'm complaining you understand! 😆

That is strange.

It sounds as though they are holding money for you or at least think that they are. How much interest have you been paid in total?

If they are paying interest on some money owed to you, it'd probably get more interest in the bank. (actually, given the current interest rates it might be better to leave it with them!) But the only way to find out is to ask, and then they might realise their mistake and stop sending you those nice cheques!

You could always write and say you've noticed a discrepancy and wonder if they still hold some of your money, but not mention the interest you've been receiving 🙂

Your paperwork should give the interest rate they'll pay on funds held, so you should be able to work out how much money they are basing the interest on.

If you have so much cash that this amount is inconsequential, send it and the paperwork to me - I'll have it.

Well, say the interest they are paying is 5%. If you are getting £50 interest, that would mean the money they are holding is around £1000?

Oh and remeber when they note they are sending you money you possibly should not have they will come and ask for it back (with intrest) you are best giving them a call and sorting it out in a roundabout way it is theft 😕
