I find the whole "I'd like to watch a film with violence in it, but only if it's sanitized" a little hypocritical.

Personally I think more films should be challenging to the viewer.

Challenging isn't the same as simply shocking.

So women cannot enjoy an action film, for example?

That's not what she said. I think most films and indeed mass market products are targeted at particular demographics. They generalise, but there's no other way of targetting something.

I'm sure the people who make the action blockbusters know that many women will watch the films, but they will have a strategy when making it to appeal to male stereotypes.

Many films are targetted at women too of course, probably an equal number I would expect. And some are aimed at both genders.

I find the whole "I'd like to watch a film with violence in it, but only if it's sanitized" a little hypocritical.

I hope you appreciate that's not my stance.

Why watch films with adult content in the first place if you are so easily upset? ๐Ÿ˜•
reviews are easily available online to allow you to censor your own viewing matter or just stick to PGs in future.

INRAT but...

Just started watching Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy. The opening scene is two spies meeting in a pavement cafe, and it results in a shooting. First they show all the bystanders, one of whom is a young mother feeding a baby. Well the lady gets accidentally shot by the gunman's first effort... well I won't expand further but the camera lingered on the results for a good few seconds. It was one of the most heartbreakingly awful and terrible things I've seen on fictional TV, so the question is why the hell is it in there? Doesn't seem to have anything to do with the plot, it's just some kind of awful eye candy or something.

This is supposed to be entertainment, what the hell is wrong with you people? Jesus wept.

Needless to say it's totally put me off the movie, I can't bring myself to concentrate on it any more...

You utter pansy

As above, Film 4 sent it to us. Mrs Grips wanted to relax with a grown-up film for a change. I didn't really fancy either film tbh but we put it on anyway.

You utter pansy

Fk off.

Fair play OP, you've had quite a flaming, but stuck to your guns.

I wasn't targeting you above BTW.

If you're easily upset you should stick to Disney films. Bambi for example.....oh wait, maybe not! ๐Ÿ™‚

Molly id have to disagree on the shocking vs challenging thing... How to you challenge an audience as desensitised as the modern western world, without shocking them into paying attention to something? You seem fine with characters being shot but when it's driven home to make you consider that character as human you couldn't handle it.... Would you have even considered it if she had been shot and the action just carried on as it would in any other film? As a parent it shocked you then challenged you to the point you didn't want to watch the rest of the film... Quite an impact! I didn't even remember her being killed until I read the thread as it didn't shock me to then challenge me... That probably says more about me than you though lol

I would be more concerned about all those torture porn films that the kids these days are watching.

Sounds like the film you are complaining about depicts violence in a more responsible manner than most Hollywood movies.
