I love a bit of sci fi.
Gattaca and District 9 are still 2 favourites. I'm always blown away by Sharlto Copleys superb performance in the latter. Absolutely spot on.
Cypher is also worth a watch if you haven't seen it.

Oh, Cypher is just sublime. The camera work is brilliant, you clocked how they use colour, right? That's really overdue a rewatch.
If you've not seen it, you really need to get hold of Cube as well. Same (producer? director? team? something) people. It's truly brilliant for a film made on a budget of about ten bob.
D9 is ace, and I'm 99% sure I've seen Gattaca also; that's the one with two competitive brothers yes?

Both seen and read it, actually. (-:

Cougar - it genuinely is, its even hard to put it in the bracket of filth, because the use of those (really, really quite graphic and shocking) scenes is in the context of something larger that really takes you through a journey that I guarantee will leave you feeling pretty emotionally raw after watching the two films back to back. Lars Von Trier really does push you out of your comfort zone.
Saw a cool horror called "Babadook" on Netflix the other day. Worth a go!
The trailer certainly looks interesting (if a little familiar)

Both parts (fnaar) are on Film4 this week (Mon & Tues at 11:25)
I really enjoyed The Martian (biased because my cousin worked at NASA's JPL).
What about Fury?

The ending left me feeling cheated.

Yeah, never got around to watching Cube. I have a vague recollection of someone spoiling the ending for me however that was so long ago I've forgotten what the spoiler is so I may well check it out!
Yes, Gattaca has the 2 brothers one played by Ethan Hawke. Uma Thurman and Jude Law also star. It's beautifully shot - superb cinematography. Very interesting idea the whole superior/inferior genetics thing. Very underrated film in my opinion.

When people respond to a question on films or music with a bunch of YouTube links does anyone actually click on them to find out what the poster is recommending?
Anything by the Coen brothers.
Only one film to watch home alone - Requiem for a Dream, if you are going to feel harrowed and used, you might as well do it alone.
Apocalypto
Mission to Mars
Prometheus
Sunshine
Ex Machina
Last man on the Moon
Live Die Repeat
Under the Skin
I've just downloaded a couple of more SciFi movies but can't see them on my iPhone, will look later when home.
Rocky
Rocky 2
NOT ROCKY 3
Rocky 4
NOT ROCKY 5
Rocky 6 (aka Rocky Balboa)
Not sci-fi but I really enjoyed Slow West recently; enough violence to be bloke friendly but also a really strong character piece (although the ending was just a bit too neat).
Oh, and Blood Simple.
Shouldn't you be out riding your bike guilt free?!
Or how about a box set or full series binge? Game of Thrones, Band of brothers, Strike Back
If we're talking action box sets then The Professionals has to be up there.
Snowpiercer
A French/Korean collaboration - what's not to like!

No guilt, she's a keener rider than I am. (-:

I considered this but not sure what to go for. Again, we generally watch most stuff together.
Isn't the default bloke-in-the-house-on-his-own film Black Hawk Down? Exploding helicopters being the essential ingredient in any film, obviously.
When are you starting the thread on what food?
I'm thinking either curry or kebab!
Kajaki - very tense war film about true events in Afghanistan.
+1 for the Guardians of the Galaxy suggestion - it's one of the few films I enjoy regularly repeat viewing (along with Pulp Fiction & Fight Club)
Ex Machina was OK I thought, worth a watch but not as good as I'd hoped
Chappie was dire
Interstellar's worth watching but you probably need to watch it twice to properly appreciate it.
Watchmen is worth a look if you've not seen it. Any of the Marvel Universe films, Guardians of the Galaxy is a good shout. Antman is also pretty fantastic.
Just started the Netflix Daredevil series. Very impressed so far.
If you haven't seen it, Edge Of Tomorrow is one of the best original Sci-Fi movies in ages.
I'm well up on the MCU / DC movies and series TBH. We've got Ant Man and S2 of Daredevil to go, but they'll be watched with the missus.
Edge of Tomorrow I've seen a couple of times, I have that on shinydisc. Which is a point, I should raid my DVDs / BDs to see if anything leaps out at me.

I'm thinking chip butties tonight TBH.

Watched The Invitation the other day different subject matter but a similar sort of feeling & equally brilliant.
@AlexSimon Snowpeircer amazing film, took me ages to find it then read about all the hassle of its release, one of those that's like nothing you have ever seen.

Its not even Friday- I think we are the only folk with actual chip pans left ๐

It reminded me of lots of films that really got me excited about foreign cinema in the first place - Delicatessen, The City of Lost Children, etc
Man from UNCLE... Guy Ritchie, genius
Spotlight.
The Lone Ranger.... Bad reviews but I think is great
2 guns..
& the equaliser with Denzel Washington...
Most normal people put on the Best Of Wham and try the OH clothes and makeup on, then pass out in a pizza and cider coma and woken by a kick to the ribs when your dear heart comes home early
Not that i am talking from experience...
Just nipping back to the thread to say Lars Von Trier's Nymphomaniac is one of the most tedious, badly acted films I've ever tried to watch. I made it as far as the woman bringing her kids to the "whoring bed" house, which although was a cleverly uncomfortable scene, it was so unrealistic, I just turned the film off.
That's all ๐
