Hi all

Does anyone have any experience of owning a holiday lodge/caravan/cottage as an investment?
I have had a few buy to lets before, so understand the basics. I just have some questions over typical number of weeks let, how long the things last for, maintenance of them etc.
I could do with a view that is not the sellers of these things...
Is there a stw equivalent forum even?
My email is in my profile.

Thanks
Matt

not got anything specific for you Matt, but check out these. I think they look great for a holiday lodge (need a shower though 🙂 ) but at £20k all in they're still daft prices.

Nooooo!

Just looking at 'standard' lodges and some plots at present. With my knowledge of sustainable building, I reckon I could build one that's rather cheap/free to run energy wise though.

Agree.

Rammed earth would be a good starting point if you have the space an enough mates who will work for beer 🙂

Skye Homes look pretty good and not too much cash for a house rather than a cabin.

Skye homes are a TF manufacturer. Having worked with them twice, I would be hesitant about working with them again :(.

I am more interested in who has actually rented a holiday home / cabin out.

Ah, I'd not heard any bed reports about Skye Homes before, but to be fair I've not heard many reports on them at all - I take it you're based north of the border then?
Not had rented a log cabin out, but to give you an idea of how long they last, I have friends who just moved out of theirs this summer. They bought it about 5 years ago after it had had about 20 years of holiday let use. 12 cabins on the site and when they were sold off they were in dire need of attention, but were still habitable even though they'd not had much spent on them over the years. This is up on Mull BTW.
