My wife, daughter and I are going to be spending 1 week near Bergerac, in the South West (ish) of France. We would like to drive (partly so we can take bikes and extra rubbish).
We are going to have another week somewhere else - does anyone have any good ideas about itinery/accomodation options for the way down? We have stayed near La Rochelle/Ile de Re before, so would like to do something different. If I could get out on the bike, that would also be a bonus. Unfortunately the Alps looks a long way out of the way...

Bayonne/Biarritz, over the border, couple of days on Spain's north coast, ferry back from Santander?
I had a week not far from Bergerac, between Perigeux & Brive, in 95. Drove down from Bradford, the French leg included a stay at Dreux on the way down and Chartres on the way back. Calais - Rouen - Dreux - Limoges etc, then reverse of above swapping Chartres for Dreux.
I think the cathedral at Chartres was the most spiritual building I've ever been in, including St Peter's in The Vatican. Not that I'm a spiritual kind of person, mind
