I would head for Devon; either South Hams so you have great coast (start bay for example) and Dartmoor is close or North Devon where Exmoor meets the sea.
Edit: South Hams has much more on offer like Zoos and Swimming pools etc.

Cornwall is lovely this time of the year but I'd agree with Tang that Devon would be a better choice if riding is the main consideration.

I'm biased but if you're not too bothered about being on the coast then Eastern Dartmoor would be my recommendation - 30 mins down the A30 to Exeter area (cinemas, Crealy etc), and similar distance to Torbay for organised "fun" stuff if that's your thing. Under an hour from either North Cornwall or South Devon Coasts for beaches. Lots of nice villages and places to eat in the area, most of which are generally very family friendly.

Moretonhampstead, Chagford and Bovey Tracey all have nice outdoor pools which will be opening in the next couple of weeks too, weather permitting. Pony Centre is nearby and good fun for little 'uns.

It's great for kids generally. Lots of rivers to splash in, woods to explore and rock tors to clamber on and terrific riding from the door. Our 4 year old loves it.

Can you tell I like it here? ๐Ÿ™‚

All of these have good riding from the door - first one is a good choice for kids (play area, swimming pool, animals etc), and only a couple of miles from the Nutcracker / Cleave:

I can echo the above. I schedule my training for Exeter so I can stay on Dartmoor and ride, or go surfing, or bouldering or swimming. Also holidaying with the family near Bantham this year.. love the area.
Plymouth also has some highlights, the aquarium etc. and is roughly the same distance the other way.

Hate SprocketJockey now though ๐Ÿ˜€

www.avontyrrell.org.uk in the New Forest, (home of the Big Bike Bash too), try one of our smaller lodges, lots on site and out in Forest or nearby beaches

We used to holiday at the Treyarnon Bay Farm cottages at Treyarnon Bay Cornwall. It's the bay next to Constantine Bay. It's lovely down there so recommend the area and the cottages are converted barns and not badly priced for the area outside of peak season, well weren't when we used to go about three yrs ago.

Friend of mine has a nice house in Cornwall - not far from St Ives. Never stayed there myself but the owners are really nice people so I'm sure it would make for a low hassle get away. Here's the website with the house:

Looks like it's booked for some of May but not all.

Another plus for the South Hams, ie Totnes, Kingsbridge, Salcombe - great beaches, loads of stuff for kids around Plymouth, National Sealife Aquarium, quick car trips to Dartmoor, otter sanctuary at Buckfastleigh, rides are mostly farmy bridleways and country lanes tho unless you get up on the moor.
