Am I happy with my current bike? Yes.

Do I need a new bike? No.

Do I still want a new bike? Yes.

Budget £10k, current bikes on the shortlist to be test ridden in due course:

Kawasaki Z900
Triumph Street Triple RS
BMW F900R
KTM 790 Duke
Honda CB650R

Any others worth a look?

Ah yeah, a friend has a Tracer - good call, will add those to my list.

The BMW above looks great but perhaps a tad £££

🙂

I assume you have a sidecar for your guide dog?

Don't have a dog, I ran over it. Just didn't see it.

Test rode a 790 Duke and it gave me the biggest smile. Was a load of fun! Now I don't have a 40 mile commute each way to work I'm going to get rid of my GS and get one. Kestrel KTM were knocking them out for about £100 a month on PCP

Triumph Speed twin also worth a look if you like the style, I have both Street Triple 765RS and a Speed Twin 1200. They’re both great bikes IMO.

XSR 900 would be more in keeping with your original list than the Tracer(since someone has already mentioned the mt09).

Is it a do all bike or plaything you are after? I'd say the KTMs are mor playthings and the Z900 more all-rounder with the rest suggested somewhere in between.

Of the ones you list I've only ridden a 790 Duke. After a year commuting and playing on a 390 Duke I was looking for basically a 390 with more power. The 790 is just that. It is an absolutely stonking bike. Loved it to bits and I was very, very, very tempted, but I could never quite get my head round paying that much for what is effectively a toy. Instead I spent half as much on a very well looked after 990 Supermoto and I'm just as happy on that as I would have been on the 790. Not as smooth, not as economical, but it's the most fun I've ever had on a motorbike. I'm sure any of the other bikes would be fine but I'm totally sold on KTMs at the moment.

The other one not on your list would be a Husqvarna Nuda 900. Absolute hen's teeth in the UK but a few for sale in mainland Europe for around the €8000 mark.

I downsized from 10 years on thousands to a 765 street triple RS, it's a brilliant bike but does ride like a revvy 600 super sport. They say the R is more well rounded for the road.

Mine gets used on a track a fair amount, and it's simply brilliant for that. The brakes and suspension are a real treat but you really need to rev it hard to get the most out of it. 4 or 5th gear overtakes on a bigger bike are 2nd or 3rd on the 765, you can almost treat 5th and 6th as cruising only gears. When it gets going it really sings and has a nice balance of power that means you can use all the performance just on the right side of sanity.

Cheers for the replies all.

KTM - think it would be the latest 890 I'd go for but the 790 still looks great - need to check both out.

With regards to style of bike - probably an all-rounder. Think a KTM will do that also. Love the Triumphs and the Z900 gets rave reviews.

Hmmmm lots to think about 🙂

@solamanda thanks for the info, the RS was top of my list so that's very helpful - need to get a test ride sorted.

I’ve test ridden most of the bikes on the list and ended up with a Honda CB1000R NSC. I got a cracking deal with 0% so it’s about £100 a month. It’s a really lovey bike to ride and well worth a look.
