Looking of a pair as a pressie, looking to spend in the region of £50-100, not an in-ear type, but the ones that cover the whole ear.

Going to be pluged into a ipod/psp/TV etc.

Sorry not a hi-fi buff so a bit in the dark here 😉

Something that has good sound quality, good sound isolation, but if anything beeing comfortable to use for a long time is more important.

Its for a mate who is going to be stuck in hospital/bed for a while.

Thanks in advance...

Grado SR60i would fit the bill (or SR80i if you're feeling flush)

eta - sorry I didn't notice the 'good sound insulation' bit - those are open back, which let noise in or out. You really need to look at closed back 'phones - these have won some awards

but i've no personal experiance

I have these:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Shure-SRH840-Professional-Monitoring-Headphones/dp/B002E3IWQK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1295972581&sr=8-1

which are closed but sound pretty good, many closed ones sound shut in compared to open-back but the noise insulation is better.

I normally listen to Shure SE530s which are > 2x the price, and these compare well and have a similair tonal balance, which is good.

However they are £125, but the 440s are £75 and are suppossed to sound similair but a little more lively.

I bought some Sennheiser HD238's before Christmas. RRP £70.

They are amazing sounding and very comfortable to wear. They are open backed so leak sound so not so good for public transport use and also let sound in too but they really do sound amazing. Deep rich bass (but not OTT or boomy) high but well controlled treble sweet mid range.

Beware, there are lots of fake headphones about so I'd only buy from a reputable dealer.
