Well, it was a bit childish.

er, have you seen Star Wars content before?

Obi Wan appears to have been neutered in terms of his abilities, not sure why they’ve done this

Really? You didn't pick up a few clues from the story?

Well I don't watch the cartoons, but most of the movie and TV output strikes a pretty good balance as family entertainment - that adults can enjoy without kids present, if they wish.

The Mandalorian did this brilliantly, like a 70s or 80s Saturday evening TV show, mixed with a Sergio Leone western.

It's OK if you enjoy the overtly childish stuff, but some of us don't.

Can't say I can see any difference in the between Mando and Obi Wan in terms of the age its aimed at. If anything the slow pace of the first episode with a lack of action sequences was aimed at a more mature audience. My 11 year old son liked it but did say he would prefer some light sabre fights.

The constant moaning from grown ups that Star Wars is not grown up enough, does make me chuckle.

It's not the themes or general vibe that make it child like, it's some genuinely slapstick moments. It felt Doctor Who-esque at times (which I hate)

As I said, it's fine if you don't have such refined taste as some of us. Really.

You see had you just left it at the first time it would have shown some maturity, clearly sutilty is not in you repetior

I've watched Ep1, I thought it was fantasic. For me, it strikes a good balance between the wants of boring old men who treat the orignals as scripture and actually making a TV mini series for a broader audience.

Definitely more than a touch of an intergalactic Sajid Javid going on with the Grand Inquisitor.

it's all a bit pants really although Ewan and Leia make it amusing and waaaaaay better than the Mandalorian which was unwatchable

I'm coming round to thinking that they might be better off making these as animation rather than live action. The Clone wars was really good once you got into it and the story and dialogue was better than these recent Disney versions for my money, it was pretty dark really. Not sure how the amination shows stack up cost wise against the live action but they don't seem to suffer from the hammy acting or naff chase scenes that keep cropping up. Looking at some of the Love death and robots animation shorts these were fantastic and could work really well on shows like this.

Just caught up. Enjoying it so far. Little Leia was a great idea. Not for the super serious “grown up” sci-fi fans perhaps. Lighten up.

I'm liking it so far. Good tele but thats all it is, I wasn't expecting Citizen Kane or something.

'True' StarWars fans seem to hate everything these days. Odd.

On the contrary, I think some of us are just casual fans who think they've struck a few false notes with this one.

Personally I'd prefer if they were less attentive to the desires of serious fans, and used less stuff from the "expanded universe" or whatever they call it.

I love all the links to Rebels etc. And for a whole other generation, that is their Star Wars... not all the old people in 20th century movies.

Sigh

I won't link to his output, but if you want a full on melt down on Star Wars google a delightful character by the name of Nick Fuentes, he's an american right wing "provocateur" (shall we call him politely?) There's a 2 minute vid of him having a melt down about how feminist's have destroyed Star Wars (and particularly the male characters), This man's in his 30's I think and he sounds like nothing more than a 12 year old having a temper tantrum

It's an illuminating glimpse into the mindset.

It's the same on Marvel and DC Universes as well, i'm not that bothered about them trying to bring some equality in roles, or even Disney using it to branch out to try and gain market share, but i would say that Disney seem to be making a real hash of things over the last few years, from the last jedi which was just a terrible movie, to the new wave of Marvel movies, which seem to be pretty poor and a bit directionless.

Personally i just go and check other stuff, there's more out there than Star Wars and Marvel, but Disney have spent a fortune getting those franchises!

For teenagers I know, that’s the case. Chopper means more to them than the movie droids as well. Not everyone grew up in the 1980s. If they get the Ahsoka series right, it’ll be bigger than any of the movie spin offs with the under 20s.

My nephews got into star wars through Rebels and the Clone Wars cartoons. They do like the films but aren't as wedded to the original trilogy as we older folk are, they don't get why i hate Jar Jar either.

The Bad Batch is just as important to my 14yr old nephew as the Mandalorian is

I love the Mandalorian, Boba Fett was rubbish until the Madalorian and Luke arrived.

We are enjoying Obi Wan thought episode three wasn’t out until Friday. So thanks we will be watching it tonight now

Have to agree that the kids understand this part of Star Wars through the cartoons but also the computer games apparently the 3rd sister is really hard to kill.

From the last star wars game I played, the sister was basically a sith Lord but playing it low key.. Maybe that's what's happening here with her obsession for capturing obi-wan and her batman like abilities.

But she's essentially a mercenary with the other conspirators, so why they don't execute her remains to be seen.

Isn't there meant to be only one Sith lord, who would be the emperor in this timeline, Darth Vader is but a Sith apprentice in this timeline, so if she's suddenly jumped up to being a sith lord or even apprentice it would be weird!

I'll wait and see what happens, i just hate the whole way they seem to speed up the abilities of characters, in that last episode you have Obi Wan, a Jedi Master not able to do much, looking clumsy and useless, and then you have this sister who's down the pecking order who seems to be Darth Parkour, with all the force ability of a full trained master.

Personally i've never really understood why Disney stick Star Wars in such a small world, there's so much they can do without having to end up in a western style desert planet, or green and leafy endor style planet.

Well as mentioned above, you've probably missed the best bit of star wars, clone wars, yes it has dud episodes but overall it's good builds up the star wars universe great.

It quite sad to see in the news that the inquisitor woman has had racist abuse online. I don't think her character is any good but that's no reason for people to behave like that.

Of for sure, I agree.
The series has potential.. We'll see if it matures a bit once it's found it's feet.
The cynic in me says it won't. But it could be great.

Enjoyed part three. The mix of silly species (mole face man this episode) and chase tension is great fun.

Gotta be honest didn't like EP3.

10 years prior to this Kenobi was a Jedi who could beat Anakin, Grevous, Maul etc.

And again 10 years after this is set he holds his own against Vadar.

But he just seemed rubbish at fighting. Also figured they'd leave the fight from this episode to nearer the end.

Oh well, expect I'll continue to watch it.

Just watched part 3, still on the fence, Obi Wan is still bumbling about and needing to be saved, Third Sister is still showing everyone how it's done properly, they just seem to be turning her into the main antagonist with a sledgehammer.

It can still work though, depending on story, but it needs to remember that this is 9 years before New Hope, we know that Obi Wan gets through this series without any real issues, Leia is back being a princess and Vader and Obi Wan weren't really meant to have met up until Episode IV.

I think it'll be an entertaining enough series, but as stated before, i hate when they just look badly thought out when fitting them into the timeline, i'm not bothered about sticking to canon completely, but there's some stuff you just have to put a bit of thought into, we're seeing this happen in loads of things, Star Trek, Star Wars, Marvel, etc, etc.

He hasn't used his powers for 10 years though, and to be fair, even when he was at his height, he was a bit dim. I reckon if I hadn't done something for 10 years I'd be a bit rusty.

I think he'll come good, he'll get in touch with Qui-gon or something.

Well, he has been living in a cave for the past 10 years, not using the force or his lightsaber. Is it that unreasonable that he'd be a little out of practice? Jeez...

Anyway... Good episode, number 3 - 3 planets in 3 episodes, almost makes me forget the endless tattoine episodes in Boba Fett! Nice little fight sequence too.

In Episode 4 we'd been under the assumption that he'd been living off grid as a hermit for a very long time and was able to do all he did, and train Luke, Yoda had been living on the swamp planet for 20 years and was able to lift an X Wing out easily.

He's also talking about waiting to train the boy in the first episode, seems a bit weird he would be waiting and not doing it himself.

But Jedi training is basically just, saying "hey, I'm a Jedi, listen to what I'm telling you...." "Now lift that rock with your mind, go on, don't think, do..."

Unashamedly enjoying this. I have a poor memory for plot details so timelone holes don't bother me. I think I mostly just like the aesthetic of Star Wars so as long as there's some cool robots/spaceships/gadgets I'll happily watch along with my cup of tea.

Aye, 3rd episode was much better.

I'm sure they've said this is a truly standalone 6 episode series with no follow up? Genuinely curious how they smoothly link this into ANH
