[#7514939]

My wife has just woken me with the startling news that she is still angry about last nights Archers! It's 6.00 o'clock and you're raving about a controlling, masogonistic, bigoted tosser. She is convinced Helen is going to breakdown and she's on about the lack of black characters now. It's only a story about dullards people who live in a fairy tale land to a ripe old age. I'm talking about you ferret molester Grundy.
I'd be happy to bump into Fallon though!

Please give us a precis - afaiaa (not being a 'listener') he is closet gay, and is meant to get married to her, but would rather be with his gay squeeze?

Thats a bit racy for R4, or have I got it wrong?

Rob's a abusive husband, the story will be his wife, Helen, finally realising this and trying to do something about it, I'd imagine.

It's a brilliant storyline though.

No one likes Helen. Or her parents.
Or her brother.
The only decent member of the family died in a tractor accident years ago......

That is what a lot of countryside communities are like though. It would be a bit err, obvious to move the Patels into Grange Farm. Also, wasn't (isn't?) the vicars wife Asian? Im sure I've heard other 'minority' voices from time to time.

Yeah, there's only Usha, and she caused a stir when the character was introduced, why d'you think the series is so popular amongst the Daily Mail set? I think they'd have a collective heart attack if actual black folk turned up in the village.

Funny i'd always imagined them all to be of colour.
You've ruined it for me now.

Real black people?
Like Amy, you mean?
Or her gran.

And no one likes Helen, that's what she's there for.
Even now, a little bit of me will rejoice when they sign the commital papers.
🙂

Rob'll get Charlie's job, ruin Adam and Ian's wedding and then explode spectacularly.

The Archers may be a bit old-fashioned, but they've covered more 'controversial' topics than any of the TV soaps.

And I don't see anything about it designed to appeal to Mail readers.

Helen is just "unlucky"

What is wrong with Pat and Tony?

Hear it very sporadically these days but Rob is a typical Ambridge rotter 😆

Fallon follows after her mum, the shower scene with Sid caused a National outrage.

I lived in a West Country village for 2 years. There were no black people.

Rob is one of the darkest characters ever. A proper psycho.

He has just possibly broke up Ian and Adam.

He raped his wife.

He is also controlling her and getting support to do it from her mother. It's not clear but he is possibly drugging her to make her weak, tired and confused.

It's a really good story line and I guess it's building up to a Christmas climax.

well that's setting the bar at an appropriate level

Pretty much spot-on there gobuchul, though I don't think he's drugging her. Gaslighting like a mofo though. That the victim is the thoroughly dislikeable Helen just makes the storyline even better.

Also, I reckon he put Scruff's corpse in the silage!

Oh hell yes he spoiled the silage, of course he did. What happened when he hit the sab and Shulah (wettest character ever) saw him? Did he try and intimidate her?

Johnners - What evidence do you have for that? I never made any connection.

She slept for a day last week. I think he's doing something.

Is it just me that finds Kirsty's gravelly voice (not in a vocal fry/daan with the sixth formers way) probably the sexyest in the known Universe?

Duh! It's Rob, innit.*

I can't see that he'd be risking drugs on the mother of his son and heir, also the tiredness isn't unusual with either pregnancy or depression, which seems definitely the direction she's headed.

*I have no evidence whatsoever. But - it's Rob, innit?

"gobuchul - Member

because not everyone knows that a reference to "Helen" can only mean the thread is about some strange voices that people get in their heads courtesy of public service broadcasting

How can you not care about the Grundy's plight and the way poorly paid local workers are being priced out of rural housing? Or the lack of decent assisted living places for Joe? He's in his nineties for god's sake!

You have a heart of flint.

@antigee you cleverly(?) missed out 'and reply' in your selective quote.

'I've nothing to say but I'll say it anyway' shocker...

The point Mrs wingnuts was making about black characters is that they are very rare and don't get meaty parts. She is an educated black professional and yet she shouts at the fictional story of country folk! I just get fed up that she has to have it on iplayer when she misses it at 6.00 in the morning! Rob is a wonderfully dark person and I love to wind her up about his next evil plan. Have to say I missed the Scruff in the silage being down to him angle.
Isn't Kirsty Jasper Carrot's daughter?

All the workers on the dairy farm that Eddy didn't get the job at were Polish.

I had assumed that everyone else was a Rastafarian.

The brilliant thing about radio is that you can listen and do other things! Clever isn't it?

I listen to the Archers either while cooking or when I am driving. It just enhances other activities. 🙂

Jasper Carrott's daughter was Hayloi, but years ago now.

Tony IS the second Doctor's son though.
And new Clarrie is original 'Pam Ayres' Clarrie again now.

And Pip is much, much better than she was too.

Uh oh.. Cue argument about wearing earphones whilst riding which'll lead to helmet debate which'll lead to the Universe collapsing in on itself etc.. Be careful out there, careless talk has consequences. 😀

While we're speculating, where's the body of the Pole who was going to shop Rob months back then disappeared (I had money on him being in the sileage clamp)?
