As STW is the font of all knowledge, thought I'd try here first for advice.

We are looking at replacing a 13 yr old combi boiler. A quick google suggests £1300 for a new Worcester 34cdi. What would be a ballpark figure for the labour and associated bits to fit? It is going in the same place, and would also need a new room thermostat/controller to replace the old dial type in the hall.

British Gas man has just quoted £2708 total incl Vat for that boiler, fitting , controller etc. on their current 'deal', but my instinct is never to trust the big firms to be the best value. Any thoughts?

Cheers!

Getting an Intergas 40kW one fitted in March by a local company for £2300 and it's not going in the same place. Shop around!

A person who fits Boilers is a Technician....

NOT an Engineer 😆

Your location would help to recommend someone.
I wouldnt be looking at WB now. Idal have some goodd long warranties now, that'd be my first choice.
£1500 upwards, supply and fit. Get a fliter fited at the same time too, and make sure they put inhibitor in. Most will do, but I'm sure some of the cheaper ones will overlook these.

The new boiler would work with your existing thermostat, it's just a switch. However I'd recommend a wireless one that you can then place accordingly. We went for a Worcester 36cdi and it was a couple of grand a few years back. Took the guy a day in total as he also had to replace a run of 15mm gas pipe to 22mm as the new boiler required more gas flow. This also included a magnaclean jobbie and new inhibitor.

We paid about £1900 in November for a replacement Vaillant combi with a wireless controller. Included a fair bit of pipework replacement, a water softener on the cold supply, a call to GasCo to have the main valve replaced and a purging of the existing rads and pipework and refill with inhibitor.

Im not a boiler engineer/technician or fitter but had a new worcester bosch combi fitted recently to replace a ageing baxi system boiler. British gas quoted us £4700. I found a local approved worcester bosch installer who fitted it for £2007 including the required powerflush and a high quality magnetic filter.
