[#4101421]

Spotted a display of headphones in a shop, all lined up and pretty.

Not one was plugged in to anything, and the chords weren't available to plug in to your own musical delivery device. This meant that you couldn't hear what they sounded like.

There was, however, a mirror. So you could see how truly awesome they looked.

It's the end of civilization as we know it, I tells thee!

I'll bet several of them were 'Beats, by Dr Dre', bloody awful sounding, even the £170 ones, but those who buy them don't care, it's beeing seen to be wearing them and be cool that's important.

Being told I couldn't try out ear buds due to hygiene reasons boiled my urine some years ago.

If you didn't nail shut the shop door and burn the place down, then you are the bad man in this story.

You had a chance to make the world a slightly better place.

Count,
Don't know if you've had a listen or not, and obviously it's very subjective, but my Beats Audio headphones sound just great (in black I hasten to add!)

Id wager not not listening to the same sort of thing the 'kids' do, so slightly missing the point of the high levels of bass.

Dave, yes, I have. In Bath Apple store, unplugged from the display Pod and plugged into mine, so I could play a wide variety of music, from heavy rock, through trip hop and electro to acoustic folk, and I can promise you, I wouldn't take a pair as a free gift. They're all bass and bugger-all else, the midrange is muffled and congested sounding, which renders them useless if you like to hear the words.
But then, they're aimed at people who couldn't give a toss about the words, 'cos its about the bass, innit.
And that was the £170 ones. I've listened to the new B&W P3's recently; same price, £170, and they comprehensively wee all over the Beats.
But so do my M-Electronics M6 Sports, and I got two pairs of those for £20.
I'm very fussy about how music sounds, and I hated the Beats. But if all you want is drum'n'bass and bass heavy dance, then I guess they're fine for that limited field.

Id wager not not listening to the same sort of thing the 'kids' do, so slightly missing the point of the high levels of bass.

Some of the stuff I listen to has very deep, powerful bass, like Metallica, Soundgarden, Mortdelamer, Curve, Sisters Of Mercy, Goldfrapp, but Laura Marling, Elbow, Metric, Stars, Arcade Fire, Blonde Redhead, etc, need good midrange.
No, I'm not missing the point; if theyde been better designed they could have all the bass, but clearer mid- and top, which would have made them a good deal.
As it is they're heavily compromised in their performance. And I've seen plenty of reviews that say the same.

This is the same guy that did the 'ignored whilst blatantly stealing bikes in NYC, even with an angle grinder' and 'crashing into all the stuff in bike lanes, including a police car'.

🙂
