And now, even after finding out about the specific requests/warnings not to remove any items from the site, i'm still struggling to find much enthusiasm for pursuing the kind of response that would leave these kids with a criminal record.

Stupid kids yes, treat them as such.

Criminals?...


Taking items left in a mass grave site, which is being preserved to protect the memory, sound like theft to me or are you OK with taking what you want from graves?

£170 fine and a year's probation, suspended for three years, doesn't seem that inappropriate to me. The criminal record for theft is harsh, but they did steal items and were caught.

I'm not sure how this will impact future jobs, but they won't be able to travel to the US, ever and they may want to avoid Israel as it might be interesting!

Not entirely certain that's correct. I think it means they will need to apply for a visa in advance (which, of course, may be denied).
