Of course they have not. They are totally convinced that their opinion is the only one which is right and allowable.

My mistake. 😳

Hilldodger, I'd pay decent money to see Ton unleash some Northern Sumo on Mini-TJ.

Homophobic! Why can't he express his sexuality as he sees fit?

As a point of order, have Fred and Tandem thought that they might be a part of the problem and not part of the solution?

Actually, I have considered the fact that some folk seem to get a bit wound up by what I post on here, so I have reigned it in somewhat. And believe me, I am on a very short leash as far as the mods are concerned, so I can't be anywhere near as 'offensive' as others. In Real Life, you'd hear far, far worse than anything I post on here. 😳

As for getting baned: According to the mods, this happenz becoz I am complained about a lot, so they get fed up, and just ban me to save the hassle of dealing with all the complaints. Fair enough. But tbh, I jolly well have not actually broken any rules (not deliberately anyway), certainly not to anywhere near the extent others have.

I accept what I post winds people up. Tbh, that's rarely the intention, but I spose I have certain views some find a bit much for their sensibilities. Ah well.

I do think some have got into a 'report anything Elf sez' frame of mind, but what can I do about that? It's an internet forum; some folk will say stuff you don't agree with. I prefer to challenge them rather than go running to teacher, but there you go.

Anyway this was about polarisation and in the short term at least, this seems to have happened. I think it'll settle down again eventually, but as has bin seen tonight, some will continue to bear grudges.

Ben, cheers. Would need to get my BMI into the lower 50% on the forum if going out with training bods. Do you organise on any particular site/forum?

Sorry to hijack the bickering and bigotry, we dont seem to have the riots in Leeds so had to content ourselves with Lancastrians and Southerners battering each other.

ilovemygears, do you genuinely have learning difficulties, or do you just put on for sympathy ?

I think I ought to know, because I wouldn't want to be so callous as to have a pop at someone who's got some issues.

Fred if you are truly innocent as you make out, read every post that you type before you post it and ask yourself "Is that condescending or not?" Then adjust your post as needed

You may find you may win a few more 'friends' on here

hth

Edit (of course we are unintelligent so we believe you are naïve 😉 )

Houns; in fairness, you might want to apply the same thought to your own posts, speshly some of those directed towards me tonight.

Because they are a bit rude tbh.

I'm not particularly bothered, but now we're all being calmer and less antagonistic, I have to say that there are a number of people who I call my 'fan club', who, regardless of what I post, will pop up to have a sly dig at me, try to wind me up, get me banned, etc. Hence the condescending reaction from me. If you try to insult me, then it's game on, as far as I'm concerned. Notice though, that I never resort to direct personal abuse. No need for that.

But the continued hostility, well, that's just boring, as ultimately I think most folk on here would get on ok in Real Life.

Look how childish TJ is being below. 🙄

I don't think Elf will disagree with me when I say he is quite the outspoken attention seeker. If he comes across that way, it's cos he's being true to himself! at least he has opinions and stands by them. I change my mind about stuff from one day to the next!

Its one of the delights of here is meeting folk you never would normally know - folk of totally different world views

well said.

So this has got into an I hate Elf thread instead. (OK possibly a little over simplistic)
Now I do have to say, I enjoy coming onto STW for a bit of a read and I rarely post in other than what tyre threads. Even so - damn, Elf and TJ wind me up! I'm consistantly surpised at the liberal gruaniad whinging that goes on, it just HAS to be trolling....
But that's why I love coming on here. It's damn addictive. I simply don't have the time to discuss online with anyone to the level that you guys do otherwise I'd love to join in more. What on earth do you guys do for a living that allows you to spend all day online?
Oh, and even though there is no direct quote, the OP does read as a 'if you don't agree you're wrong' taken in the context of other posts by Elf. Onions are formed over time, it's difficult to change them when an apparantly totally inocent thread is started.
Is any of the above trolling? Yeah, probably. Can we have some pictures of buildings now?

Edit:

Its one of the delights of here is meeting folk you never would normally know - folk of totally different world views

This - this is why I read the posts that wind me up. Well said.

I've found people expressing their views and also frustration with how they see communities changing. Then there are some people who are just abusive trolls who spout on about bigots whilst been one their self. Shame as some people have some very good opinions on here and somewhere amongst it all is probably the answer to the current problems yet some people ruin it.

Pathetic.

Freedom of speech means you get to hear things you don't like, and sometimes from people you thought better of. As a relative newb here it is fascinating seeing the usual suspects engaged in a pissing match. It is worth stating your point of view twice at most. After that it just becomes people who aren't listening to each other shouting at each other - in the deluded certainty that they are right.

BenHouldsworth the 90%/93% of communication is non-verbal thing is a total crock. Bad interpretation of one small study many many years ago which embarrassed the author. An urban myth.

Ok, find an example where I've directly abused someone then Flashy, y'know, called them a knob or tosser or something. See, I avoid doing that, as it's unnecessary. And a cop-out.

So you can cough all you like Mr Flemming, I hope you get that pebble up soon....

I don't think Elf will disagree with me when I say he is quite the outspoken attention seeker

No you are wrong no hang on hold on a minute erm.... 😐

I can't see why not, quite frankly.

I've never understood why they just don't call it The Purple Dildo.

"where d'you work?"

"The Purple Dildo."

"O.k..." (walks away)

why not? you can call a building The Gherkin, or The Shard. What's wrong with The Purple Dildo?

I think I just like typing "The Purple Dildo"!

Well? Are you working in the Cucumber? 😀

That's a building I'd love to go inside too. I've loved it since it was built, and most Londoners like it too; we've a special affection for our Gherkin.

I wonder what the world would be like if everyone had the same opinions...no need for politics, one news paper, one TV channel.

Russia in the 70s. Pravda. But i suspect that was a rhetorical question?

Like Kevevs, I change my mind from day to day, so end up sitting on the fence until I'm forced to make real world decisions. I've been slapped by a policeman (hard enough to bring on a fuzzy moment) - I still genuinely have no idea why, and am old enough to remember

THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE AND PUBLIC ORDER BILL

which made a criminal out of anyone attending a peaceful protest or unlicensed celebration.

So I am very wary of normal folks, who happen to be in uniform handing out arbitrary justice whilst stressed out of their minds, on the streets of our cities. And very, very wary of any new legislation coming on the back of public unrest...

On the flip side, as Elfin has already said at least once tonight, I'm also extremely grateful that uniformed folk like Easygirl are around to nip genuine crime in the bud - back on the fence?

In answer to the OP, WGAS?

when that was going up I called it "The Giant Xmas Tree Lightbulb". It didn't stick for some reason. Even though it looks just like one and not like a gherkin at all. What if you are following a recipe and it needs gherkins?, and you do a google image search, and all you get is pictures of The Giant Xmas Tree Lightbulb? bloody confusing.

Well? Are you working in the Cucumber?

No cucumber action for me, although i was in Tower 42 last week which gave a very similar view to that photo.

If you want to go in. I'm pretty sure that 30 St Mary Axe has a bar and a restaurant. Pop in order a cola and make it last.

"The Giant Xmas Tree Lightbulb"

Oh yeah, right, cos that really rolls off the tongue, Kev... 🙄

It does actually look like a gherkin. Probbly why it got the nickname 'The Gherkin'. I thought it looked a bit like a gherkin before the nickname even surfaced.

So, what name you gonna come up with for the Shard? 'Big tall pointy thing'?

Sheesh. You and Sue are rubbish.

('Big Domey Thing'; erm, it's St Pauls Cathedral, Sue.... 🙄 )

Pop in order a cola and make it last.

😆 Cola? Glass of water more like....
