How is everyone doing at work today?
So far I've done some chores, am planning on swinging around in my hammock for a bit then going to look at some goats with the girlfriend, having a pint then making some cider and some mushroom soup after we have some burritos I made
bruk - MemberHowever I've not read the Green Party policy ( it's STW! Why would you actually read the OP?) and a 3 day weekend could be a Royal PIA when running a 7 day a week customer service based business as staff already don't want to work weekends.
Oh that's easy- you just start a big conversation about the 4 day week at work. Everyone who says it's a stupid idea and could never work can keep working 5 days.
In the 70s, under the disastrous Red Robin strikes at BL, they actually made more cars in a three day week than they did in a five day week!!
I think it's a good idea-worth exploring. More time off means more time to keep fit. Less burden on the health system.
Perhaps the 'system' should be more onside for self employed workers-mortgages etc being less prohibitive. That would also help.
4 day weeks are *very* common here, a good proportion of people with kids under school age (7) do it, or maybe 4.5 days a week (one day off a fortnight and alternating with partner). I did it when my kids were younger. I'd like to do it again. I might see if they offer it as a deal again. (i had a chance to do it in my old job, when i was attached to the factory)
The 6 hour working days were mainly at a few specific places, mostly surgical/ICU type areas of hospitals, it apparently fitted in much better with theatre occupancy rates. We won't (yet) be getting it many other places.
[quote="NoTalent"]I wouldn't, I like earning stacks of cash.Get a better job then? Or move somewhere that doesn't cost so much. I reckon i could take a 30-35% paycut here and STILL have a lower cost/better standard of living than an equivalent role/location/house than the UK.........
Most folks only "work" or are productive for 4 days a week anyway.
Seems like a good way to appease the lack of motivation.
It'll never happen, thats obvious.
Whats more likely to happen is a full 6 days working when full on Brexit hits. You may as well get used to that idea.
That may happen in poorly managed firms, good ones will come to the same general conclusion this thread has, that using tech and not overworking your staff is the most effective way to get the most from them.
4.30pm thats time to ride my bike.
see ya
The Green Party don't allow staff to work a 4 day week but who ever said you should lead by example ๐
