'Joy makers' otherwise known as Volunteers are needed for Next Years Tour de France and Tour Femmes which is starting (Grand depart) in the UK next year.
This could be fun trying to control our version of 'Dutch corner'.
Is anyone applying?
Have you got a link to that please? Both events come either close to home or close to family and friends so could be some fun to be had
Well whatever people's motivation for volunteering I can't see it being the free T-shirt ! What were/are they thinking ! I've been a lot of things in my life and worn some bad corporate kit, but Joy Maker ! No Way. I thought the Paris 2024 volunteers' kit was about right with "PARIS 2024" on the back. 🙂
Yeah not the best look especially not for the fashion conscious youngsters that they are looking to recruit.
I'd volunteer myself but I've bagged a bed at a mates house nr Rhayader & we'll probably be finding plenty of joy in a bottle or two during the event.

A friend of mine was a Games Maker during the London Olympics.
She ended up working at a central London station directing tourists, never got near the Olympic Park.
On the other hand there's a famous video of a Tour volunteer doing traffic island duties, literally right in the middle of the race, when one of the team cars (trying to make up ground) comes whipping around the corner on the wrong side, the marshal dives out of the way and the team car wipes out the central reservation where they were standing a split second before. The video clip gets shown a lot in pre-race driver briefings.
So I guess there are options varying from "you won't even see the race" to "you might be killed by the race"... 😉
I suppose the 'T' needs to be yellow, however I agree the design is dire.
I was thinking of volunteering for Le Tour Femmes. However it comes through my home town and I can't imagine not spectating from my chosen viewing point.
One of the volunteers was being interviewed this morning and she was a very keen cyclist, also knowledgeable regarding cycle racing. She said even though this wasn't needed, it did help as they get asked a lot of questions eg why is the road closed, also what is happening?
Not after seeing those t-shirts. Blimey. Why can't they just have a TDF Logo and "Volunteer" on the back.

I would rather be the rabble rouser on Dutch corner, in fact I have invited two Dutch and two Belgian friends to the cyclocross champs in Glasgow, so perhaps I need to invite them to Edinburgh next year...
