I'm leaving next week,so sod it.
There's a railway bridge near me that crosses the local park. In the past there had been some inspirational graffiti on the arches... "It's July and May is still here" and "do it Scotland" being amongst them.
This was the last interesting piece on the brickwork....
I'm thinking "you voted for this shithole", "brexit is awesome" (in an ironic sense), "are you happy?" or something else along those lines....
Inspire me.
Could also paint in the bike path, doesn't have to be the arches.... Fair amount of fat dog walkers doing the rounds.
How about, "Don't let anybody tell you what to do."
I like the irony.....
Along the lines of the recent one where we lived next to our place in Munich... "I'm sorry about your wall".
Although that reminds me of another one that was local to us.... Glaube der Bibel, aber nicht den Lügen.
Believe the bible, but not the lies.
Not sure if Essex is ready for something quite so profound.
There used to be a painted slogan in Glasgow. On an old railway arch high up of a disused railway, near the citizens theater at the outskirts of the Gorbals. It was there for at least 3 decades and It read; 'No War Buut Class War.'
I always found it funny in an ironic sort of way that they misspelled 'but' 😆
The best I saw was “Looting takes the waiting out of wanting”
"If graffiti changed anything it would be illegal" - old but still good
"BREXIT. Beware of sunny uplands"
"These are not the words you are looking for" - Star Wars reference my be too old for the kids
"ABANDON ALL HOPE. Oh, too late, carry on as you are"
Used to be one in Halifax when I was younger that said "Jesus lives" then someone wrote next to it "well that's ****ed Easter then!"
The canal in Falkirk has "Romans go home".
Equally appropriate for a railway viaduct.
In misspelt Latin obviously.

There was one near Tramway where they ran out of wall before they could finish the message
WAR IS STUPI
Have they totally missed the pun in the ‘Give “peas” a chance’ explanation in that article….
The words "give" and "a chance" were added later, with the amended graffiti thought to refer to his frequent arrests, according to an historic building report by Oxford Archaeology.
I don’t think it’s anything other than reference to the John Lennon lyric - or am I the only one who thinks that?

It can be both - thats what makes it a pun.
Fair amount of fat dog walkers doing the rounds.
Dear me, misanthropy rules...
"Your dog needs more exercise" ?
It can be both – that's what makes it a pun.
I wasn't questioning whether or not it is a pun - more the fact that no mention of the pun was made in the BBC article linked. They seem to think that the sole reason for adding the words was that the artist known as "Peas" was frequently arrested. Maybe they presumed that everyone would get the reference to the lyrics and it didn't need mentioning. 🤷♂️ I wouldn't be surprised if the people at Oxford Archaeology did not know anything about the lyric (which is "Give peace a chance" btw) but I would have thought the BBC journalist might have....
HELCH
'Bill Stickers is innocent', still makes me smile
Written at the end of a wall..
Think ah
e
a
d
EDIT - Good old STW formatting fail. The e, a and d are supposed to be in line with the h but underneath!
GOURANGA
Always wondered what that meant when I was little, I still don't know but never see it now (used to be on loads of motorway bridges in the midlands area).

Minor road junction in Suffolk...
A 'STOP' sign some wag had written underneath the Stop 'Hammer Time'. Made the family fazzini chuckle
Three things I hate.
Graffiti.
Lists.
Irony.

The current best is on a wall as the train is rolling into Glasgow Central. Simple instructions to "Snort Eccies"

GOURANGA

I don't know the meaning of the word, but years ago you'd get hari Krishna/ monk type white guys stopping you in the street to promote their movement and they'd ask you to say "Gouranga" as some declaration of happiness or something
GOURANGA
Always wondered what that meant when I was little, I still don’t know but never see it now (used to be on loads of motorway bridges in the midlands area).
There's an HMHB lyric for that:
"Gouranga Gouranga
Yes I’ll be happy
When you’ve been arrested for defacing the bridge"
I don't speak Scotch, but surely if that was eccies the I would have a dot.
Thanks for the Big Dave's Gusset memory!
I think GOURANGA is the Harri Krishnas?
"Iron like a Lion in the Den" was another London rail one. Millwall or Marley fan?
Way back in first Grand Theft Auto (the top down one) if you ran over a line of what I assume were Hare Krishna's you'd get a big GOURANGA! message on screen.
Locally someone has sprayed a 'Grove St 4 Life' tag on a high wall. I have a photo but can't find it.
Does anyone recall when Tox03 was sprayed all over London some years back? Walls, rolling stock, stations, roundabouts - nothing was immune.
Still see it occasionally whenever I (rarely) go there; it was so ubiquitous I was surprised someone didn't write a book with it as the title for the free advertising. Maybe a photobook of some 'better' and more imaginative work, for the irony, you know?...
A quick Google reveals the identity of the perpetrator, and that he was prolific for many years, just changing the suffix to indicate the relevant year. Not sure if Tox23 will be appearing anywhere though, let's hope he's upped his game/artistry.
Graffiti - pissed off and pissed ON: Black Bitch pub: Urinating dog graffitied onto West Lothian local pub’s logo after controversial name change

So in true STW, how about graffiti depicting weeing on someone's shoes?

Slough: Thatcher don’t you care?

On the way to my local trail - unfortunately been washed away by the rain now.

Well, if we're going for road signs.....

There used to be "I am an angry passionate soul, screaming out in this torturous sea of mediocrity" on a rail bridge near Paddington.
WALL!
"Huh"
What is it good for?
Why not go full STW?
This is on the tow path beside Old Trafford

😆 Wear's the soap?
“Give peas a chance”
Some will recognise this important quote. Never the same since covid.
