[Closed] Gps Watch for a Ten year old

[#7478856]

My lad does a lot of competitive cross country running and cycles a fair amount too.
I thought it would be quite useful to have a Gps watch so that he can download his runs and rides onto the tablet when he gets home.
I'm only after a fairly basic one - he hasn't got a smartphone (and won't be getting one!) So an apple watch or similar would be totally ott.
I'm only really after a gps and timer functions. They don't use heartrate as a training guide at his age so I don't need that.
I've had a look but there are a lot of options so I thought I would seek the wisdom of this esteemed forum (!)
A couple of points - he is a skinny little ten year old so it would need to be physically quite small and the tablet is android, if that makes any difference.
Any advice gratefully received.

I use a £30 secondhand android phone on payg and Viewranger for that - my kids have used it as well.

do you duct tape the phone to your wrist ?

a used forerunner 205 / 305 can be had for buttons(ours was 20 quid) and fitted up with a velcro strap.

Get this and tell him he better get to the Olympics for the price it cost

also he will have no excuse for getting lost on the run

Very nice.
I wasn't looking to spend quite that much though...

No, because with a GPS I can see speed so 'cut' the track down and get times from it, so you don't need to reach for buttons in a panic.
I just though the cheap option may appeal, knowing what my lot are like looking after gear at age 10.

It'll be a Christmas present so I don't want second hand. On the other hand he is ten, and like most ten year olds he is capable of losing or breaking anything so I don't want to spend a fortune.
I was hoping somewhere between £50-£100 would get me a good quality, reasonably tough one.
