What a non story. Politician sticks 2 fingers up to the PC brigade in a newspaper column
What our former top diplomat?
It's not as if there is something going on in the Labour party where the press are hounding them is it?
Politician sticks 2 fingers up to the PC brigade
This is sort of illustrative of the depths our country is in, where making a vile racist slur is seen as some plucky act of defiance.

After all, we know that burka wearing woman are a scourge in our society. What a brave and forthright man Boris must be to pick on this ferocious and criminal section of the population.

If you like that you'll love what the National Socialist and Workers Party, I mean Labour Party, are up to.
Boris Johnson.... the moron's idea of what a clever person sounds like
Politician sticks 2 fingers up to the PC brigade in a newspaper column
And that's exactly the result Borris wanted, he's playing you like a (u)kipper there.
Its no coincidence that he wrote this column a few weeks after meeting alt-right strategist & shit stirrer Steve Bannon.
It's obvious that he's positioning himself as a polished version of trump for his next stab at (the) PM. I seriously doubt he could care less about who wears what.
sadly it seems some people fall for his bullshit every time
I seriously doubt he could care less about who wears what.
Indeed. Boris doesn't believe in anything other than Boris. He would say absolutely anything, without exception, to further his own ends. He's a moral vacuum.
He's obviously now taking lessons straight out of the Bannon textbook to become our very own Poundland Trump. Next week he'll suggest bricking up the channel tunnel and make the French pay for it
Like many others of his far right ilk, he's interested in one thing. His ego.
Totally agree dannyh
This was completely deliberate to appeal to the racist pensioners.
The lack of a response from 'Windrush' May is an embarrassment and another indication of where she stands on the Racist Scale.
rockchicWhat a non story. Politician sticks 2 fingers up to the PC brigade in a newspaper column.I haven’t seen many comments on here being critical of the people or government of Denmark. Or would that be racist ?
Just maybe that's because Boris was until recently foreign secretary and his actions have a direct effect on the British public.
Oh, sorry, did your straw man just blow away?
We should be a lot more concerned about what lying, mendacious scumbags like Boris are up to while they’re busy lobbing distractions into the mix
nailed it.
btw @binners what you doing here anyway? as a massive racist yourself, I find your hypocrisy quite alarming.
(that was a joke)
Point of order:
The plural of Sergeant Major is Sergeants Major.
Carry on.
I don’t think it’s any stretch to imagine that the vast majority of the retired Sargent Majors and senile old blue-rinses are inherently racist.
Are you living in the 1970s? Wake up and look around you.
Are you living in the 1970s? Wake up and look around you.
*sees racist old people everywhere
Are you living in the 1970s? Wake up and look around you.
increasingly, I do think I'm living in the 1970's, yes.

It's OK he has been told to apologise, now he has grabbed his publicity he can apologise for it and complain that the pc (not bigots and racists) crowd are oppressing him
When did you start wearing glasses?
We can look forward to the traditional Boris 'sorry, not sorry" non-apology then?
Like you said Mike, he's hit his target. The home counties, Daily Mail reading residents of twilight Meadows Home for the Terminally Bewildered, that constitute the Tory party membership, will all be tutting that poor Boris (isn't he a card?) is being picked on by the 'Liberal Elite Establishment'
Johnson is a racist bigot - of that there is no doubt. Not in the deliberate way of Robinson and the BNP but in the totally unthinking / uncaring / no idea he is saying racist things way.
The man is uunfit for office adn surely thi sis now time attention turned to the racists in the tory party. But the tories paymasters in the press will kill the story. tomorrows headlines I bet are all about Corbyn again
Can’t believe that people think anyone criticizing the burka are racist. They are a foul garment, that no free thinking female would ever wear. They are enforced by men who are only interested in subjugating their women.
Some people on here will be praising the Islamic State next.
That’s quite a statement..
Is the burka a garment for/of oppression?
I’d be careful about broadcasting that, since there are many women who choose to wear it to satisfy thier religious beliefs.
Can’t believe that people think anyone criticizing the burka are racist.
Its the choice of words in criticising that is important. Oh and his past record of being a racist arsehole.
Racist twaddle from Johnson
He suggested the Queen must love touring the Commonwealth because she's greeted by "cheering crowds of flag-waving piccaninnies" and that in the Congo, Tony Blair would be met with "watermelon smiles".
Boris Johnson was furious when President Obama said he thought Britain should remain in the EU.
His response was to call the president "part-Kenyan" with an "ancestral dislike" of Britain.
Orientals ... have larger brains and higher IQ scores. Blacks are at the other pole.
Can’t believe that people think anyone criticizing the burka are racist.
No he chose to ridicule the people wearing them, imagine if he had made comments about the way Jewish people dress.....
That’s quite a statement..

You mean ‘religious beliefs’ made up by men and dictated to women. Sounds a bit like oppression to me. Men can be mean and manipulative, they even get victims of physical abuse and rape to think they are at fault and somehow deserve it. Getting them to wear a garment like this whilst convincing them it is their choice and religious duty is child’s play. All the while they get to strut along in their t-shirts, Bermuda shorts and flip flops as cool as they like. Funny how their religion only dictates what women should wear and not men.
Well he's played most of you very well. Have any of you actually heard / read what he wrote, and before I get accused of being a Torygraph reader PM on radio 4 felt it significant enough to read out a large chunk this evening.?
The vast majority is very sensible, ignoring for a minute the stupid comparisons he made the general thrust of what he was saying was that telling women what to wear is not acceptable, be that governments like Germany, France and now Denmark who have some form of ban. He was also saying that it was equally unacceptable that some men insist women cover up in the name of modesty.
The use of the bank robber / post box comparisons was also clearly deliberate and far from silly casual racism. It's got him headlines, probably bolstered his support from the significant number of bigots across the political spectrum whovswallowed the whole PC gone mad argument whilst making everyone else froth at the mouth in indignation.
Our politics really is in a mess when this gets such airtime.
Binners is right, Boris is a complete moral vacuum and whilst on this occasion people have been really lazy and knee jerked he really does need to be removed from political life. What's sad is the lies he said during the referendum which he should been pilloried / prosecuted for have largely gone ignored and yet this drivel has kicked up a storm which he'll come out of stronger.
You'll now have to excuse me while I take a bleach shower for not completely condeming this horrible self serving little man.
If he'd said that they were ridiculous (as an idea) rather than the people wearing them look ridiculous, do you think that would have been any less controversial?
My underrstanding of the burka and other forms of head covering is that it's origin is rooted in trying to prevent men from being overcome with ravenous passion at the sight of a woman. Is this not the case? If that is the root of the tradition then it's offensive to both men and women to perpetuate the idea. If it's 'just something we do because we've always done it' then crack on.

Yes this was always his plan, yes this is what he was trying to achieve. He is also pandering to his racist fans though. The other entirely hypocritical point is a paper who is currently having regular pops at Labour
Chose to publish an article where BoJo mocked the appearance of women following religious faith.
That is what really stinks here.
Well he's said he won't apologise. So I think Boris Johnson is a **** and I won't be apologising either.
then it’s offensive to both men
yawn, thought you would have a male angle. How is it offensive to anyone, people can choose to wear whatever they like and you can read into it whatever you like to fit your agenda.
Well he’s played most of you very well. Have any of you actually heard / read what he wrote, and before I get accused of being a Torygraph reader PM on radio 4 felt it significant enough to read out a large chunk this evening.?
Who the hell do you think you are, coming in here with your informed opinions!
Bend over and take ten reverse squat thrusts to the face, that should get those knees firmly back where they belong.

A fair point to make but if Boris thinks this then ridiculing the victims seems a bit, well you know, racist.
sticks 2 fingers up to the PC brigade..
If you mean "Trying one's best to not be a chopper" then chalk me up as one of the PC Brigade.
you’ll love what the National Socialist and Workers Party, I mean Labour Party, are up to.
I think that it's incredibly cute how people confuse Socialism with National Socialism, because the latter quite demonstrably incorrectly contains the word "Socialism". I wonder whether these people can deal with the truth about Buffalo Wings or Lord Adonis?
I find it endlessly entertaining (not in a funny-ha-ha way either) watching islamophobic gammons disguise their hatred of Muslims as being white knights for women’s rights.
The head covering is from the old testament IIRC and is exactly the same theologically as a nuns wimple and why women are supposed to wear hats in church.
it is however used as a means of oppression and there is nothing in the Koran that says it must be a burqua only that the hair must be convered

FGM is another weapon of choice. Ironic they love womens rights so much when it suits them.

Not really incorrect in that they were socialist. For a specific section of the population at any rate.
Nazis were not socialist. anyone with a little understanding of socialism would know that.
May has now called for him to apologise. A bit late but she has done. What will Johnson do?
What will Johnson do?
Nothing at all. Why would he, when he was FS he did enough to be fired repeatedly. If only we had a press who cared about this sort of mockery of religious groups, if only.....
I think people who wear cowboy hats and boots are daft, does that make me a racist ?
Boris’s makes some very valid points about banning the garment doesn’t help and that not discussing it doesn’t help either.
Is he racist, not sure but he has said we shouldn’t ban the burqua banning unlike the racist Frenchies, Danes and Germans (racists the lot of them)
The press and narrow minded folk on here have jumped on the headline, ignoring the actual debate that is worth having.
Never got told to apologise by May before when he refused tho
The press and narrow minded folk on here have jumped on the headline, ignoring the actual debate that is worth having.
Well he could have had the debate in a sensible way and not said that people looked like letter boxes.
But yeah it's not as if he has said anything racist before
Nazis were not socialist. anyone with a little understanding of socialism would know that.
I did try to illustrate that I meant that in a very narrow way. Like, rizla paper territory. I'm well aware the reality was far from that, usually polar opposite.
If only we had a press who cared about this sort of mockery of religious groups, if only…..
They care deeply if there is an opportunity to manufacture outrage at the Labour Party.
Boris’s makes some very valid points about banning the garment doesn’t help and that not discussing it doesn’t help either.
I'll ask again how does ridiculing those you see as oppressed help the debate, unless you are a racist.
