A lot of the DN visas are only for the country you apply to and don’t grant you unlimited access to other EU countries.

yep they also require you to have,be earning a reasonable amount and have private health insurance,they aren’t designed to let you bum around the country on peanuts.(The 90/180 rule also applies to leaving the host and you (and the Spanish one requires you to  spend 6 months in the country)

TBH for either if you have the ‘coin’ for either you could apply for a NLV (non lucrative visa) and not work just arse about.

Even if you don't exceed 90 days, it looks like you'll need to apply for a visa waiver to visit most of Europe from 2025 - https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cx29nzd1drgo

I was going through passport control in Faro Airport in January.

There was a well dressed, late middle aged English woman at the desk.

She was getting absolute pelters of the official for staying more than 90 days.

Not sure what the final outcome was but my guess was she thought no-one would care or check. This bloke obviously did.
