Gladiators! Who will be watching?

Intended watching 30mins of it with the kids last night before bed. Ended up watching the whole thing and them having a later bedtime - they enjoyed it thoroughly. Youngest already identifying Gladiators on sight before their names were announced.

Of course, both kids now want to enter Gladiators and be an actual Gladiator. It's like my youth all over again 😀

Worst part was the 'hilarious' Bradley Walsh & Co. Terrible.

Watched most of it last night, very much the same feeling as the original. I didn't think Bradley Walsh's son was a  very good presenter though.

Good one today, pretty hard hitting stuff during the Male Powerball.     The grid game thingy though was a bit rubbish.

We thought the grid game was pretty good, bit more tactics involved. Gauntlet looks kinda pointless and poor though. Loved it again tonight!

Great episode! Better games this time I thought, loved the return of The Wall. You’d have to be a miserable bugger not to enjoy this 😂

Your heart has got to sink when you get Giant on the pugil sticks 🤣

Trying to imagine the circumstances in which I’d find myself watching Gladiators, and failing miserably.

Watched last week's tonight and good to see Kerry in it. That was cool.

The killer line for me was the 'double-team' moment on the bridge one with the dangling gladiators. Wife and I wet ourselves laughing. Kids asked why. We had to make something up.

Yeah, I don't remember it being that easy 25 years ago.  Wonder what's changed.

It was often a walkover for the contenders if they were quick, which everyone seemed to be tonight! Also possibly all the gladiators just need a bit more practice!

Been asking the same question. The game looks the same so either the gladiators are worse, or the competitors are better? People used to get absolutely hammered and/or thrown right out of the sides playing that back in the day

My better half reckons the channel they're running down in Gauntlet is wider than it used to be.

Think the contestants nailed the Gauntlet 'technique' which seems to be hit and rotate, Travelator thing looked bloody quick tonight!

Yeah, our 6 year old and his pal barely made it to the end of the first game before they hit the pause button and just spent the rest of the evening wrestling and pummeling each other with cushions. They eventually forgot gladiators was even on 😂

Wasn't Apollo an ex-pro rugby player? The red contestant just got repeatedly slammed!

My son was in stitches watching the Red contestant from Sheffield running up the travelator doing a great impression of Officer Earl:

Lightning was always my teenage fave. I was ambivalent of Alan partridge ‘s fave, Jet

As a 11year old boy I got to meet Lighting. Dressed in her gladiator gear... I got a hug... With my short stature there was a fair amount of breast pressed into my face.

I had actually forgotten that until now.

We thought that the trench in Gauntlet was different too. Wider and shallower perhaps.

Is Sabre the new Jet? Asking for a friend.

Disappointed that nobody has gone researching old Gladiators videos yet to find out for certain. Or did everyone just get stuck at the Jet vs Lightning conundrum?

Well, the fact my kids will never be as cool as your kids is just something I'm going to have to live with for the rest of my life...

Brilliantly put. Almost impressed that this thread has turned into an identical copy of the “road riding isn’t fun” one

Is it me or does it feel alot more cut price.

The wider shots seem more like a conference centre thanast time and the walshes are a totally bizarre choice.

Also will the tennis ball canons come back?

Enjoyed ep2, some good battles - but Giant and the red contender with the pugil sticks seemed a comical mismatch.

I did cringe a couple of times, but mainly at a couple of the contenders being cheesy AF.

Won't stop me tuning in again next week.

Is Sabre the new Jet? Asking for a friend.

Might be Diamond. More research required though.

My toddler loves it, his only memory of this weeks episode is Viper elbowing the microphone.

Agreed that Gauntlet seems easier this time around. Travellator looks more difficult, I think before it started at floor level, but now there is a foot or so of pad before the moving belt and this transition seems to catch most out.

Male Blue contestant took a face full of the balance beam too!

My main bug bear is Clattenburg having a stopwatch around his neck and not using it!

There's no run up for the travelator either. Two steps and you are on it.

I can confirm that this is the bit 4 year olds are also talking about

I'm not sure but I think they slowed the Travelator down after the first woman contender had had a couple of goes.  Not sure though.

If that's the case it seems a bit unfair because she had just knackered herself trying to get up it at full speed and then then next woman was arriving to a reduced speed Travelator slightly fresher.

I remember they used to slow it down if someone had already won and the other person was clearly too knackered to make it up at full speed.

They did slow the travelator down for the first lady which as said is very unfair as the other lady was about to take her turn.

I watch it with my sixteen year old daughter but I sometimes think that having brought up a daughter has made me more of a feminist than her. All four presenting roles are males, three white middle aged men and some ill looking bloke who got there via the gift of nepotism. It just diminishes the program for me.

We definitely need answers about Travelator-gate (as nobody is calling it).

I'd rather have seen the red woman win, but the blue one was clearly far superior at the final challenge.

Viper must be fuming about being given those useless 'gloves' on the gauntlet.

Might as well be using a pair of those giant foam fingers the audience have to try and stop the contestant.

I don't think the travelator needs a gate.  People never remember to close them.

Would bring a different dynamic to the show, but probably not in the BBC remit.

Kerry is a Scottish mountain biking champion apparently. Anyone know her?

I know I'm a week out of date but I rode with Kerry in her very first days moving over to MTB from moto.  She's a proper talent with a complete natural feel for getting a bike in the air.  No way I'd keep up with her nowadays.  I think she was eleven times British motocross champion and all that experience came through to the bike. Great character too.

I havent watched it, but i know Sabre (Sheli McCoy).

Mrs SSS said, to me 'You know Sheli, shes in Gladiators'!

She used to showjump when my son showjumped, and her mum can still be seen (heard) commentating at equestrian events. She was only a wee lass then. And this wasnt Dundee 😀 it was in central Fife

Week two kids more into it than the first week, I think it'll find its feet. I think the Beeb has got the timing right on this reboot, the Sky one was too soon, most people that were my age (i.e around 10 the first time round) will have kids about that age now so ripe for proper nostalgia.

Sabre though, death by snu snu comes to mind. Oh yes.

Been enjoying watching this with the kids. Quarter-finals started at the weekend, was a shame to see one of the contenders pull out because of an injury.

Was not expecting someone new to jump in and take his place. Wesley was a good replacement, but I feel it should have been someone who competed previously in the series.

I am so into this show now 😀

Agreed about Wesley, I felt the fastest losers got robbed - but he won me over. Hope Finlay makes it through to semis as fastest loser as well.

Anyone else think he could be a double for Reece Wilson BTW?
