[Closed] Girls who take selfies- am I right in thinking this?

[#6090797]

That they are self-obsessed/love themselves?

I know its a relative new thing/'trend' but if I took selfies, I'd be arrogant/think highly of myself -weird. Then if I put them on facebook you'd think I was vapid?

'Hey look at me friends'.

Am I wrong? Just to check my thinking. It seems alot of people do it. Just to check I'm not in an alternative universe here.

It's like Mirrors, ever seen a woman manage to walk past one without checking herself out?

I know its a relative new thing/'trend'

Is it, or have people just started banging on about it a lot?

I'm pretty sure that people have been taking photos of themselves for far longer than we've had a catchy buzzword for it.

Not really sure as I'm seeing a downside to it. Almost everyone has a profile picture, and if the laydeez want to post pictures of themselves I'm not about to complain. (-: Frankly it's preferable to the bulk of the Facebook output in my feed at the moment, which seems to largely consist of photos of my new dogs being "cute", photos of my new children being "cute," clichéd saccharin-sweet motivational pictures, and photos with captions describing how (football team du jour) are onanists. I think I need another round of de-friending people who I spoke to once in primary school.

I suppose it's that 'moderation' thing again, isn't it. Taking a couple of pics to show off your new t-shirt / haircut is one thing, plastering FB with dozens of near-identical pictures of yourself is perhaps a little too "me me me" for comfort. But hey, it's not my business.

Selfie from 1839 (no, not about twenty to seven pm)

I think people have always been fascinated by their own images.

Selfies aren't just evidence of a vacuous, witless self-absorption, they're a form of currency. You can now be PAID in selfies:

I guess you won't need tags to determine which is the ruthless and amoral international diva and which is the impoverished ,rotten-toothed bloater who subsists on photos and unlimited free Pepsi.

All the women in unpaid internships, throw yo' hands up at me.

Just out of a Public School bonding ritual, Drac?

It's been going on longer than you think.

Blimey, David Jason's let himself go.

I tried to take a selfie once. I think my camera must be broken though, I just got a picture of a middle aged, slightly balding, saggy skinned, greying haired bloke. I am pretty sure that is not what I look like.

That the bathroom was real, well lit and there was no need to worry that taking too many photos would reveal that the bathroom really did exist?

On another note whooooa she has crazy long fingers

Colin Powell 60ish years ago.

Was that before he participated in the My Lai cover up?

"Convenient technology has improved massively in 45 years?"

Applying context is really undermining Scud's pithy point, Cougar.

Try not to do it again.

Duly noted, I shall endeavour to refrain from taking the pith in future.

Come on, would of been better if Neil Armstrong or Buzz Aldrin had said "one giant leap for a man innit, LOL"??

My big hate those is those comments on facebook that are clearly left ambiguous to promote a response, like "Scud is really down.." So all you get it a stream of people asking "what is up?"

I demand the mods do something about unsolicited gifs stealing my bandwidth!

I don't mind people putting up photos of themselves, I've done it a few times, though usually it's me and other people. The word selfie makes me cringe though.

I don't mind selfies, it's the stupid faces girls pull when they do them that I hate, typically duck faces or "sucking invisible spaghetti"

Here's a friend of mine, she saw the funny side when I posted this to her FB wall after she posted the original pic (face cropped out on purpose)

That's exactly the reason, it's also unfortunate that when something tragic happens to said girls the media use the Facebook profile pic.

I take very few selfies, and am generally only photographed riding a bicycle.

As a result, my Tinder profile still uses a picture of me looking like a serial killer after completing the Megavalanche 3 years ago. It attracts approximately 1 person per calendar month.

🙂

"Celia, 26, died today in a tragic wheelie bin / toaster related disaster. Here's a picture of her eating MS Paint spaghetti and meatballs."

To put another point of view; I'm facebook firends with a cancer survivor. She posts a daily selfie as an affirmation that she's beaten the C and lives another day.
