My sister-in-law registered her second boy as Billy, and could not understand why we suggested that William might give him more options..
im not sure who in 2035 is going to care whether her son is called Billy or William. I struggle to see who would care today to the extent it would affect opportunity, and he can always change it if he is so worried.

Now if I were worried about opportunity then

Nothing asexual (Sam, Chris, Charlie), and definitely nothing which people will overwhelmingly assume is a boy (Rowan).
I'd say that's wrong ... there is still some degree of latent discrimination and a name that stops that happening on paper might just give some extra opportunities when someone is sifting cvs etc. That said my daughter got a "feminine" name.

Although Amelie sometimes gets Emily and Amelia

We really liked Isla but it appears to be very popular now which puts me off for some reason. Amelie is nice but middle name begins with A. So far we have:

Ariella
Evangeline
Isabella
Arabella
Tali
Talia
Talula
Orla
Autumn
Freya
Arla
Lilith

Yep, some begin with A and we appear to be hippies 🙂 Funk Jr is Eben Hendrix so we have previous for hippy names

Fun ‘see how popular your baby’s name was in 2016’ thing here...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-41160596

It’s a shame that Chlamydia has such negative connotations - it’d make a lovely girls name and easily shortened to Clemmy.

My only advise is to think like a horrid school bully and try to eliminate any possible ‘play on words’ names - we had Isla as a girls name, but our surname is White so that was swiftly crossed off...

Here is our running list;

Darcey
Connie
Poppy
Florence
Tuppence
Jophy
Meredith
Sophia
Millie
Clemency
Primrose
Merryn

Our oldest is May, and the 6wk old squawker just to my right is called Fleur.

For a while Ursula was in the running, and I still really like it.

Our daughter is Mathilda, it works in English and Danish unlike many names.
Had a French girlfriend called Aureli once, I wouldn't recommend that name.

Losa

Losa is a beautiful person, that always has times for others. She presents herself very well and once you get to know her, you'll never regret meeting her. She has an amazing personality, quite bubbly. The strength within her is immense. Only a few girls are lucky to be given the name, Losa. But once they're given it, it's the perfect fit for her. Their smiles are definitely something to be witnessed. They have your back, no matter what. And they can improve one's mood instantly. The talents that are of a Losa are one of a kind. Just like her beauty and personality, her talents are unique. She's trustworthy, honest, loyal, a great listener and whole lot more

There's a nurse in work called Bongi (Sibongile to her mum) and another lady called Marvellous.
I love both of those to be honest.

Seriously?

Assuming you're English, you might consider:

Zoë
Freya
Natalie
Monica
Julia

If you're not English, what cultures are you and Mrs FMP able to authentically draw on?

I think California would make a nice girls name - with lots of catchy songs to sing to her. Also: easy to spell and not common.

Who wouldn’t want to sing, California knows how to party...(California love) to get their child off to sleep?

Mrs F has German and African ancestors (German gran, mum born in Namibia) and I'm the classic 400 generations of Yorkshireman. Although completely atheist we both love biblical and Hebrew names. Hence Funk Jr's name.

Funk mk2 will have Astrid as a middle name (MIL and Grans name and been in family for a long time)

Any Chili Peppers song from 96 onwards "hip dip dye hopper California"

You could have a look in B&Q at the colour charts and see if you can find something suitable.

Heliotrope? Or to make it a little more modern, Hel'Io'Trope.

I met somebody with the name Obadiah once, think it’s a great name for a boy, but I’d go with either Django or Thelonious for a boy myself.
My wife and I argued for ages over boys names, thankfully we had two girls 🙂

I suggested Brunhilda and got "the pregnant frown" this is something to be feared and means a temporary sense of humour failure has occurred 🙂

Obadiah

Was on our list along with Isaac had she been a boy. It's much tougher picking a name this time around.

Means dark and noble, does Brunhilda/e.
Good strong name that.
Bit Wagnerian though.

How about Agatha Marples, or does that break the detective rule?

I have an unusual name, it is a family tradition so the only other person I've met who shares my name is my grandmother.

I realise by sharing my name i make myself searchable - but I'm trusting I'm not going to pick up any weird stalkers. But I will as I feel I have to rant a bit about it.

My name is ione, I'm named after ancient Greek water nymph called a nereid.

It's quite nice having a bit of history behind my name and why I have it but...I get fed up with -

People calling me iona - it's ione pronounced eye-oh-nee (all though it's ancient Greek so this can be open to debate - so much debate my grandfather refused to call my grandmother by her first name). People even reply to my emails signed off 'ione' with hi iona - do they think I can't spell my own name?!

When it's written in Arial or similar font I then get called lone! Why? If you see Ian written down you don't call them Lan

I grew up in a village and was a bit of a nightmare in my teens - there is no anonymity if you have an unusual name.

The song 'I only want to be with you' was in the charts when I was a kid - I hated having it sung to me

I wouldn't change my surname as it goes with my first name - but it definitely put me off taking my ex's surname - 'wareham'

I guess these days there are more and more unusual names - so it may not be as bad. I wouldn't change it now - but I grew up wishing it was something less unusual

(sorry - had to get it off my chest!)

That's a lovely name and is getting added to the list. People always spell my name wrong and it's really common. Mrs Funkmaster's maiden name is quite unusual and I wish we'd taken it rather than mine. Used to get some truly comical mispronunciations too.

I'm basically a doppelganger of my father and know far too well what a pain in the arse being a tearaway teen with an easy identifier in a small village can be.

I've only ever heard of one other person with your name, and now I don't want to say who in case it's you.

If the person you have met was in her eighties and riding a Russian cossack motorcycle outfit - that'd be my grandma not me 😉

If you're looking for something different, unusual names I've come across include Pebbles and Princess- dear little Princess said I could call her by her middle name of Jacqueline if I wanted - I guess she preferred that.

It sounds very much like the same person.
🙂

You don't get many Jaquelines these days, although I do work with a bubbly blonde lady of that name, nominative determinism fans.

Ione Wareham sounds great, you could have been known as ‘on a Friday’ - or maybe not 🙂
