Looking at digging the DSLR out again.

Thinking of picking up an older, cheap version of Elements of Ebay.

What's the current version of GIMP like, I tried it over 10 years ago and it was very complex. Is the current version a bit more user friendly?

Yes, I know I can just download and play with it, but would like some hear some opinions. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Are they any other options at the moment?

Gimp is horrible if you're used to Photoshop.

Just spend some time and actually learn GIMP. Its not hard - its just not that intuitive to begin with. Figure out what you want to do and then hit up youtube and the manuals.

Easy.

Depends what you want to do.

Simple processing, etc. I like Polarr at the moment. Cross platform and easy to get the hang of.

If you need layers, filters, etc. and don't want to learn GIMP / can't get Elements, then Pixlr might be worth a look. Online (runs in the browser) simple Photoshop 'clone'. Plenty good enough for 'hobby' use.

Lightroom, does all the cataloguing and editing I need for a basic level, what do you need photoshop or gimp to do?
