I don't think HMHB could do a bad set list if they tried.

Anyone want two free tickets for the 1975 tomorrow night? Was supposed to be going but have gone on a last
Minute holiday instead.
Last Minute edit….it’s in Liverpool.

The Delgados at the Barras in Glasgow last night, completely magic.

"Bathe in our glorious back catalogue!"

Burns night gig so playing the intro of their take on Such a Parcel o Rogues then launching straight into Under Canvas, Under Wraps from their first album was pretty ace.

They're a proper reseller (as well as a first sell agency) - but on resale the price follows demand / scarcity so you should be safe albeit poor.

Turns out GOAT aren't oversubscribed so it was face value, just £2.50 delivery on tickets I download and print myself 🙂
Thanks

Thought I'd missed out on GOAT but just ordered from Eventim. Used them before and although I had a problem it was resolved.

First gig of 23 is now booked.
SUEP at the delicious clam next Saturday. My gig buddy who is a huge porridge radio fan heard them on Marc Riley last night and suggested it. Had a listen. Sound great. Boom! We’re in!

Pip Blom? Last Thursday at hebden trades? I wanted to go to that as it was my actually birthday but no one wanted to do it on a school night. Saw them last November at yellow arch the night before we saw tbc at hebden. My pal wore his pip blom t shirt to the bug club. We thought they (pip blom) were great but yellow arch isn’t such a great venue. It was quite cool that the bands dad was doing the merch stall though.

Pip's Dad was still doing the merch stall on Thursday. He's in a band called Eton crop.

Nipped up to Dundee to see that Frank Turner again... Bloody incredible show, I've seen dozens of full band sleeping souls shows over the years and I reckon that was probably the best yet, probably helps that they've never done a full band show there before and it was a proper sweaty sized venue ideally shaped for getting the rowdy people down the front and letting the stand stillers stay up the back. Just an absolute joy.

Mull Historical Society in a few days which should be great too then Titus Andronicus next week

Colin Hay in the Old Fruitmarket Glasgow last night. Absolutely fantastic night's entertainment, very funny stories and still has the voice and great new songs. Two or three Men at Work songs as well.

Gutted that Ozzy Osbourne has finally completely cancelled his re-re-re-re-arranged tour but I have to say it was expected. So I decided to look into tickets for Kiss (they are touring at almost the same time) – they want £80 for crap seats, up to £140 for half decent ones. Sod that! Unsubstantiated rumours now that Judas Priest (who were supporting Ozzy) might support Maiden instead (which I have tickets to see).

Next up though for me is Pigsx7 then Elvana which should be fun (Elvis-fronted Nirvana).

I'm sure Elvana will be wild, it went off when we saw them at Lindisfarne fest last year.

A bit quieter (literally!) for me over the coming weeks.

Pretenders at the Cluny on Monday. I don't think I'd be really excited if this was at any other venue but I do love the Cluny.

Suzanne Vega at the Sage on the 18th.

Roachford(!) at the Fire Station in Sunderland on the 4th March. Saw him/them way back in the day and had a great night. Looking forward to this.

Then nothing until Ryan Adams in York on Easter Friday. Have seen him multiple times over the years and really do like his mumbling in the darkness style.

Didn't he announce his retirement from touring a short while ago? You have probably just cost me £50+ quid and a trip to Bristol next Tuesday! 😀

Bum. Young Fathers.

Vaguely on my radar but then heard them playing an Indie Venue week special in Norwich, recorded last night for Steve Pacamac's 6-Music show and thought wow!

Got home just now and looked up if they're playing anywhere near me.... and they're at Kingston Pryzm tonight - about 3 miles from my workplace. And just too late to turn around and get back to them.

Hazy Jane's at bootleg in Blackpool as part of indie venue week. Lazy comparison to royal blood/slaves.... Really enjoyed it, first gig for a while, couple of real pints, couple of Shandy's, home at a decent time. Bongo.

I don’t think HMHB could do a bad set list if they tried.

I think it’s one of those immutable laws of nature that states that a HMHB gig will always have a superb setlist. Let’s face it, with their back-catalogue any setlist will have crowd favourites in it. Having said that, I’d be disappointed if ‘Joy Division Oven Gloves’ wasn’t there. They’re playing Bristol in September…

My first gig of the year was last night at The Roundhouse. E-ticket system after buying from Ticketmaster was a mess, ended up with the very nice lad at the ticket office going against protocol and printing my tickets out, so for the first time in ages I had real, honest-to-goodness tickets! Bit of a Brucie-bonus with the support, who turned out to be Lo Moon, who I first heard on 6Music a while back. They reminded me very much of Talk Talk, so I’ve been wanting to see them for some time. They were excellent, more ‘energetic’ than I was expecting!

The headline was Metric, who I’ve seen a bunch of times, but not in a venue the size of The Roundhouse, which really suited them, having a big stage to move around on - Emily their singer moves around a lot on stage! Bloody brilliant performance the whole band were having a great time, and at the end Emily thanked everyone for turning up, and for their support, and got rather teary.

Young Fathers.

Supposed to be seeing them at Chalk in Brighton on Monday, first gig of this year... just hoping to be rid of bloody Covid which I've had since Monday!
Seen them plenty of times before, but been a while so would love to hear the new stuff live.
If I can't make it first will be Jockstrap in Oxford.

Yeah I probably would have done but I already have Maiden tickets for 28 June in Leeds and I have seen Kiss many times going right back to the 'Lick It Up' tour (the one where they first performed without the make-up - with Bon Jovi supporting) and I just can't stomach £140 for a single headliner gig.

Just back from seeing Cold Comforts at MASH Macclesfield. Fantastic gig. If you can make any of their other dates you won't be disappointed 🙂

Couldn’t make it to yellow arch to see skinny pelembe on Thursday after all but suep at delicious clam last night were great. Such a fab vibe in that place. Only when the band climbed on stage did we realise they’d been along side us singing and dancing to the support acts all night!

Very tempted by Field Day. Bonobo, Moderat and Jon Hopkins, all of whom I have seen before, plus Aphex Twin who I haven't. Big day out.

Pip Blom last night. Very enjoyable, not the best gig ever but all live music is good.

I love my local IMV but it was just too busy last night. It's a weird shape for a music venue, sort of L-shaped with the stage being in the foot of the L and the bar at the top, so you can't really see unless you're opposite the stage. Capacity is presumably set on total size but there was just too much pushing to get to see the stage and a few nob heads that stand at the bar and then just force their way in when the band come on.

Lost Map's 10 year all-afternoon/evening-er at Oran Mor yesterday/last night. Good stuff from Susan Bear and nice to hear Ballboy again, but a brilliant closing set by Free Love. Amazing, not what I was expecting! MIssed Pictish Trail because we went for something to eat instead. Next time they should put on a buffet!

The night before was James Yorkston and the Second Hand Orchestra. It was alright (too cheerful for my liking!) but being part of Celtic Connections had a bit of an odd audience. People basically wearing hillwalking gear! Every year it happens at Celtic connections, I wonder where those people go the rest of the year. Probably walking in the hills.

Young Fathers in Brighton... 2 hours of driving for 45 mins of music. hmm, not sure. I guess it was cos it was an "outstore" gig, but they aren't usually that short!

Chalk was rammed, I had a good spot near the front but barged my way out when they finished and it was a right swim through the bodies! Crap place for those who don't get a spot in front of the stage cos it's all off to the side. First time I saw Young Fathers was about 40 people at the Green Door Store, so I think they're a bit too popular for me now 😛

Jockstrap next Monday. Another sold out one.

Just booked to see Sleeper in Leeds in May - one of my favourite bands but one that seeing live has eluded me until now (was due to see them in 2020 which a bat eater kinda scuppered!). Can't wait... that'll leave just one of my favourite bands left to see live but since they rarely leave Texas, thats going to require some more planning!

Also got the Bluetones coming up at a tiny venue in York which will be ace. Seen a few times live now, at seemingly ever smaller venues which get better and better...

I'm glad I made the effort with such short notice - he was very good. Still has a great voice, is an excellent musician and is very funny. It cost me significantly more than £50 because I took the afternoon off, had a puncture so needed a new tyre, and traipsed around the few guitar shops left, and then had some food before the gig. Overall, a good day, apart from the puncture.

First time ever to the 100 Club on Oxford Street to see a three band show / album launch party.

First up Press Release. I can't link you to them or anything they've done because they've chosen a pretty ungoogleable name!

The Scrounge who I've mentioned before but were good again. Friend of a mate's band and hence why I was there.

And then Italia 90. All of who are clearly too young to remember Italia 90. And definitely are not 'inspired by' the music and loose fit vibe of the era. I'd describe the singer as 'brooding' even though he was clearly having a good time. The crowd was vigorous, clearly have a small but passionate following. All told - not 100% my cup of tea but miles better than a night in front of the TV, never turn down the chance to see a live band.

Nipped through to see Mull Historical Society in Glasgow, always going to be a good show and he was playing the albums Loss and Us which are just bloody amazing records. First song was a total car crash but luckily the rest of the band came on and steadied things. Absolutely incredible setlist, only marred a wee bit by a really rubbish Celtic Connections crowd of lots of just really rude old bastards. Bloody nightmare even getting to the bar never mind moving around in teh crowd.

Titus Andronicus in Edinburgh on tuesday... Support band Jade Hairpins were solid, TA were sparks of genius in a too-short set. (also if I'm honest I absolutely love their first 2 albums, not so keen on the newer stuff so I'd have loved to have heard a bit more of that). But, still really good, just not as good as it could have been with, oh, 5 or 6 more well chosen songs.
