I'm looking forward to seeing Mortishead in Bristol next weekend (Fleece) and then Arctangent festival in August, mainly for Shellac and Zeal & Ardour. Hoping Dead Cross will do some small shows as well as festivals.

How about gig trepidation instead of anticipation? I’m off to see Slamboree tonight but given the festival it is at it will just be full of Ketamine fuelled teenagers shuffling around looking like zombies. I’ll also be looking like a zombie but that’s my natural state because I’m old and tired.

Don't worry about that. Went to a day festival a couple of weeks ago to watch Cast and OCS, average age of the crowd was probably 40+, lots of married couples, families. Saw more fights and completely @rseholed, so drunk can't stand up people at that gig than any I've ever been to!

Week later at NGHFB in Warrington, average age probably early twenties and there was no trouble at all!

Rixhardkennerly's first paragraph makes me happy all the gigs I go to are mostly attended by students!

My brother reported similar when he saw Madness at a local festival. Really not my idea of a gig!

Well **** me !

I know it’s not everyone’s cup of tea and could be called Grandad rock

but

the Rolling Stones tonight were absolutely amazing... even if it was almost a greatest hits show, even Charlie cracked a smile 😃

Gone a bit bonkers with gigs this year, kicking of with Brian Fallon, Mary Gauthier, Wilko Johnson and Nils Lofgren x2 so far. The complete wild card has been Wilson, Bennett, Poole, however. If you respect the classics (maaaaaan) try and catch them. Wonderful Byrdsian 12 string riffs and solid set of songs drawn from their first record.

Before my 2nd Stones show I've got David Byrne (very excited about this, having had sneak previews via Twitter) and Elvis Costello. Fatoldgit shares my view on Stones: left Ricoh absolutely stunned. Unbelievable the energy coming off that stage from a bunch of 70+ guys. Twickenham show can't come quick enough. They seem to be the ultimate tribute band to themselves.

Gig year continues with Steve Earle x2, Steve Van Zandt, Jake Clemons, Proclaimers, Roddy Frame, Pixies, Courtney Marie Andrews and, another I'm hyper excited about, Cowboy Junkies.

I know it's not the hippest of lists but wtf, I'm approaching 60 and still in the pit/on the rail for live music, which can't be a bad thing.

Nice to see a good Bristol contingent on here! Thekla is my favourite venue anywhere, seen some great gigs there and a fair few dnb nights.

I've got Bodega at the Fleece in a few weeks. Can't wait for that one.

Well on Friday I put trepidation aside and went to the chameleons, my favourite ever band of the 80's and instead of being a house of love style let down were - brilliant. Next up fat white family, then Kevin morby, king creosote and gruff Rhys. Gigs are great!

Onlysteel ... there must be something about being 60, I got there in April and have been to more gigs this year than I have for ages.

must admit to a bit of trepidation before the Stones in case it was an anticlimax but need not have worried .... now wish I was going again.

But , as a counter to the cost of that while in Edinburgh I found a cracking pub with and saw a band called Cow Cow Boogie for absolutely nothing on Friday

If you ever find yourself with a free night I reckon the Stramash on CowGate is worth a look.

Next up for me is Waxahatchee at the Brudenell 😀

Belly tonight at SXW in Bristol! New venue to me, the band have no support, two hour set with an interval, playing new material from Dove, their first album in around twenty years, with music from Star and King, their first two albums. Going to be a lot of love in the air for them tonight. 😍

Going to see Belly in Manchester on Tuesday, Kristen Hersh in couple of weeks at the Square Chapel in Halifax, then the Breeders in July. It's like the 90s never ended.

It's Massive Attack & Young Fathers day!

Getting quite excited - just hope it's not ruined by self entitled middle age Range Rover owning pricks.

I saw Belly in Portsmouth on Saturday absolutely brilliant gig. Managed to persuade the missus to go with me (she's not really into that sort of thing) and she even enjoyed it.

Was supposed to go to Shepherds Bush but double booked (Stealth ad: 2 cheap tickets still available 🙂 )

I'm excited - just off the back of seeing Gomez and Paul Simon last week, and I've got tickets to Toots and the Maytals in August. Didn't even know they still existed! Plus eyeing up Saint Etienne in September, and possibly Smashing Pumpkins tour later this year (stadium, but still should be good)

You’d likely bump into Big Geoff

You’ll smell him before you see him.

That’s a pretty cheap comment. I was stood next to him chatting for some time before Belly came on, and he was stood next to me during the gig, I never noticed anything like that. He used to to be a lot more ‘energetic’ at gigs, and get fairly sweaty, but he wasn’t the only one; I’ve worked with people who had a real personal hygiene problem, Geoff isn’t noticeably worse than many others at gigs.

Got a rare night out last night, as my mum stayed over to baby sit

Went to see A Perfect Circle & they were brilliant, good switch from the softer to the heavier stuff, great crowd & Brixton academy sell beer in 2 pint glasses!

Maynard has a strict no cameras policy, anyone taking phone pics is immediately ejected by the bouncers, pretty brutal, but makes for a much much better gig.

Was loadsa fun, including getting a free baguette from Euston food kiosk, however train canceled on way home, didn't get back till 1-30.

In a flash back to 25 years ago my mum  was up waiting as we tried to sneak in, pretending that we weren't as drunk as we were.

Excellent policy. Shame more bands don’t have it. And when will people realise the pics/videos they get are shit?!

People believe you went to a gig without photographic evidence you know! 😉

@Princejohn – just get down the front where you can’t see em. Man, I wanna see Young Fathers again.

@DezB - Yup did that. Young Fathers were fantastic, would love to see them in a smaller indoor venue. The people next to us saw them at their homecoming Leith gig last week, sounded epic.

I'm glad I got to see Massive Attack, slightly weird end to the set/encore tho, they did Unfinished Sympathy then another quieter song (that I didn't know, nor did half the crowd) & it just petered out. The highlight tho was Angel, such an intensity.

Oh - & even being at the front the dumb girl who appeared at the start of massive attack & proceeded to take selfie after selfie & even go facebook live, while not knowing any of the songs was pretty annoying... but also amusing when she did it during a load of information appearing on screen about the how the public at large are more interested in Keeping up with the Kardashians than what's going on in the world. Loved that little bit of irony.

Nice one PrinceJohn (apart from selfie girl).

First time I saw Young Fathers was in the tiny Green Door Store under Brighton Station (Capacity: 150!). One of the most intense gigs I've ever been to. They were awesome, but quite scary... Until we met them outside the venue afterwards and they were friendly as anything.

Saw Young Fathers a few months ago at Trinity in Bristol - probably around 600 capacity. Jaysus, they were ****ing good. Off to see them later this year again, this time at The Academy - think that’s a 2000 venue so will be a little less intimate and I just know it won’t be as good but looking forward to it all the same. Also picked up some tickets for The Dead South but that’s not till next year. Missed their gig at Bristol Uni a few weeks ago - not bloody missing them again.

Just booked my tickets for Fields Of The Nephilim in Manchester in October. Looking forward to that, they hardly ever leave the confines of the M25

GnR at Download the other weekend were a bit of a disappointment; when they were good they were fantastic, but it's fair to say they're a band with around 70mins of material trying to fill a 3hr slot.  Also Slash and Axl clearly still hate one another and it seems that they need a stage as big as Download's so they can keep as far from one another as possible.  Shame really.

Still there were plenty of other bands on, Babymetal and Powerflo being particular highlights.

Next big gig is the Foos on Friday, and as well as the RAH PSB gig, I've just got tickets for "A" at Norwich Waterfront at the end of the year!  Never thought A would play again 🙂

65DOS were excellent there last Friday night.

Missed the PSB tickets at RAH when I logged on there were 6 tickets left in the entire building. (:

Saw Young Fathers supporting Weller @ the BIC couple of years back - they were indeed very intense. Not really my bag, but they certainly put in a shift and were doing their own thing, their way. Worked for me live (was right at the front) but didn't make me rush out and buy the records.

Dinosaur Jr were epic. Only just hearing again.

Now, here's a thing. Saw Ed Sheeran at the weekend. He really was very good indeed. That is all.

Well, it isn't - I'd say its the first 'pop' gig I've been too (maybe REM qualify??) but the guy knows his craft - one guitar and a looper entertaining tens of thousands, as if it was a pub gig. I knew most of the set by osmosis but was really interesting how he constructed the layers and mashed up his own and others songs, making something a bit different.

What is it with people though that can't last an hour or two without an armful of food and drink?? IF it's such a problem, why don't they stand next to the frickin' concessions instead of going back and forth all night?? Swear it was the same 4 people....
