Easy, the council say they repair the roads according to budget and how many complaints they recieve.

CRAP.

ALL councils have a statutory duty to repair roads, this is the law,Section 41 of the Highways Act, money does not come into the law, as statutory duty is a law, like agreing to pay to park, and pay parking tickets, you cannot claim you have no money or wasted it on daft ideas.

Anyone have experience of getting thje council to repair the roads.

Come and live in Sheffield, then you'll have something to complain about.

fillthathole seems to work very well, and provides evidence that someone has identified the hazard and warned them in plenty of time, should you wish to claim for repairs after a stupidly large pothole in an unavoidable section of rode damages your tyres and suspension.

In my county they pay a French company to repair the roads, nothing wrong with the open European market of course. Everything seems Ok doesn’t it? Unfortunately, they pay them as a one of fee at the beginning of each year; regardless of what work is done.

You don't have to be an over paid accountant to work out what happens next 🙄

our local council has a neat application using the highways' maps where you put a cross-hair on yer hole.
fixed within the week. if it's been reported, and someone has an accident, as stated above - they're liable if they haven't affected a repair within a reasonable time.

Dead simple - request they fix road on the grounds of health and safety - then watch 'em run!

Some councils are very good and some are terrible.

I reported a MASSIVE pothole about 2 years ago after I hit it. They paid out on my buckled wheel etc and you know what? It's never been fixed.

Ah well....

Report it then they're liable if they don't reaact within a reasonable time - get a reefernce number for your report/complaint. the actionable levels for things are suprisingly high 60m square edged feature in the carridgeway an 20mm in the footway iirc oh and some stuff is discretionary. But don't expect too much, your local council is probably on its arse as far as highway refurbishment goes 🙁

Problem solved, Sheff Council has been awarded some obscene figure such as £400M to resurface all the roads. So after the city has just about recovered from the tram and the new one way system they are going to create chaos by resurfacing.

I once got a speed bump removed when I took the front end of my elise going over it. Pointing out that a junction is the wrong place for a speed bump seemed to help.
