Trying to get into York this weekend to surprise the Old Dear as she's doing her last* marathon. However, we're too late to get accomodation in town (without paying a fortune anyway), the bus service doesn't get you into town until after the race has started, and I can find any early trains for park and ride either. Admittedly lack of local knowledge means I don't know which stations are the best bet.

As far as I'm aware, I should forget trying to park in the city? Does anyone know of any good way to get there (from the North)?

Thanks

*the last 2 were also her "last"

According to the race literature the Park and Run service at Elvington Airfield starts at 7am.

Meant to be biking to Scarborough in the morning, but may have a problem as the start of my route is shared with the Marathon. Have to set off earlier then!

<Edit> Looks like its pre-sale from the website. Info at Race Info pdf </Edit>

Park up at one of the shopping parks on the ring road and bike into town from there? I did much the same when my better half did hers there (though I was also drop off/pick up for her at the college so left the car there)

Managed to get to see her at about 5 points on route that way too

Park up in Huby,or Sutton on the Forrest, and get the Relliance bus into town?
They run every two hours on a Sunday.
They drop you in Exhibition Square.
