Worth having a read of the comments under the STW Facebook post "Would you buy a cycling product that’s made by a firearms company?". Lots of upset Americans. I don't think they'll be renewing their subscriptions.

It's never worth reading comments under a Facebook post. 😉

Nothing is worth going on Facebook. And if I want a lively comments section I love a Pinkbike thread.

Facebook?.....never visited it apart from attempts to sort out my mothers account as she is rather impatient and swipe happy when trying to access it on her iPad/iphone leading to deleted apps and messed up settings so after reading this thread i ventured over to thread in question see what the fuss is......Holy jesus ****ing christ it's a circling swarm of shitflies desperately trying to protect their steaming pile of utter shit otherwise known as the 2nd amendment from change to ultimately, in the long game to save their own baby shitflies lifes.

I even made the mistake of clicking on a few of their usernames and the content on many of their pages is genuinely stupefyingly ignorant to an order that i thought was a caricature of a gun toting NRA supporting nut job.

Just as well i'd never get a visa for a trip to the states, i doubt i'd be able to contain my disbelief at their utterly stupid beliefs based on a 230 odd year old document, i doubt i'd make it past immigration/customs or whatever it's called.

edit : check out a post by walter nagal starting 7 hrs ago, priceless trolling by the stw crew - very well done!. If i was on Facebook i'd have given you a

Can you imagine the work load on Cougar and Drac moderating those “contributors” if they ventured on to the forum. They make certain forumites seem calm, sensible, and well reasoned.

They would need a whole new banhammer.

Perhaps we need to give STW editors guns too??

I don't imagine that subscription sales in the US for a UK MTB magazine account for a vast amount of overall revenue... (-:

Here's the post, I assume:

'Hey, are you on Facebook?'

'No, I speak to, text or call those people that are significant to me when I need to. Equally I'm not sure all of them would want to all know what i'm eating for dinner or what I think about Trump's latest exploits, so it's not really for me.'

'Oh, weird?'

'I know, even weirder, when I go on holiday I generally turn my phone off.'

I've just started reading the comments.  Who runs the STW FB account?  This is beautiful work.

[Angry abusive American]: I got 14 likes. How many did you get, douche?

[Singletrack Mountain Bike Magazine]: we gave you a like too Walter. We think you’re lovely.

What a bullshit question you're asking. Way to mix in some politics with cycling. Looks likes it's time to unfollow Singletracks.com

Some are so angry that they're unfollowing an entirely different FB page / website.

Entirely possible.

Just spotted, someone's defending guns.  Who is in Waco.

Just shows that those opinions are so far entrenched that there's no reasonable way to debate it..

It's either "you're a bats**t crazy gun totting loon" *

or

"we've got a goddammn god given right to "bare arms" and no liberal pu$$y is going to take it away from us"

I have some sympathy with the principal of the 2nd amendment but can't help thinking that it's gone way beyond this and the whole thing is now very broken. A decent man couldn't get things changed, lets see what the crazy flipflop president can (or rather will) do.  It's going to be interesting even if I hold out no hope at all that anything will change.  At the moment it's looking like a win for the NRA with their suggestion of more guns being the ridiculous, obvious answer.

* It's a bit more measured than this generally but it's the inference.

I wouldn’t be surprised if those pro gun Americans that seem to pop up on the comments section on articles written about gun control are on the payroll of the NRA.

I thought that too, especially with all the same ‘I now know who to buy more stuff from, thanks.’ comments. It’s like they have a task force whose mission it is to shut down any kind of anti material.

its also hilarious how every American thinks that everything written in English on the internet is written by other Americans, for them.

Be interesting to see what would happen if STW fb did a post staying ‘we hate guns’. Would the increased traffic from offended gun nuts offset the loss in subscribers to the page?

*ponders putting a link to this thread in the comments...

The right to bear arms should in no way supercede a child's right not to be murdered in their classrooms, seems obvious to most of the civilised world!

I'm on a closed FB group for fathers containing mostly UK and US dads. They've had to ban any mention of guns because it just becomes a full on slanging match with death threats. Being called Liberal or left in the US appears to be a major insult.

The singletrack  of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the dogwalkers and the tyranny of evil stickmen. Blessed is he, who in the name of enduro and gnar, shepherds the unfit newbie through the valley of radness, for he is truly his bro's keeper and the finder of cheeky trails.. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious banhammers those who would attempt to poison and destroy my forum...... And you will know my name is the Mark when I lay my update upon thee.

The funny thing is that the proper frothing vitriol-spitting inflammatory nutters issuing death threats do a fantastic job of illustrating exactly why they shouldn’t have access to firearms, whilst drowning out the far more persuasive well reasoned arguments of calmer advocates.

‘Hey, are you on Facebook?’

‘No, I never know when my favourite band are playing locally, or what gigs the local promoter is putting on. I go in record shops to see if bands have a new MP3 release, which appears to be never. I've lost contact with a colleague who uses Facebook messaging, I also have no idea when the local Bike Parks have events on, so my son misses all those.. But man, do I feel smug that I don't use Facebook.'

Well maybe, but Occam's Razor suggests that maybe they are just rednecks.

There was an interesting story on the radio the other day about a journalist going to the States a few years ago and doing one of those "how easy is it to buy a gun" exercises. Of course he was able to walk into a shop and buy a gun. Then the gunnist said to him that there was one problem: he couldn't sell him any ammunition. The reason was that Obama had just been elected and there had been a rush on ammo and he'd sold out.

What a giant load of plums.

I love the fact that they're saying that we (i.e, us in the UK) wouldn't have free speech without their (i.e., the Mercans') guns.

Don't be thinking all those angry comments are from Redneck Americans. There are a few strokers on here who will be pushing the pro-gun agenda.
