Oh yeah that incident, although I think that was quite successful a narrative that they created in the US, while we got to see a more honest reporting of the situation.

Wrong choice of word then perhaps. I meant it'd been on the news constantly so assumed it was something 'everyone' was in a fuss about. Turns out it was just the BBC, being outraged at umm, themselves, and showing their outrage via the medium of news. A pre-emtive strike of self-outrage perhaps, before others became outraged at them. Or something... crazy times we live in. They even brought it up in parliament on something I was watching and even the tory minister wasn't bothered. Just said GL didn't know what he was talking about and should stick to footie. Which is fair. Nobody cares.

And indeed the vast majority stop travelling long before they get close to the UK (a very large proportion only cross a single boundary to a neighbouring country).
Those who come all the way to the UK often have a very specific reason for choosing the UK over other countries, such as knowing people here, speaking the language, having been promised safe refuge.
Do the refugees speak French? They're aiming to get to England for good reason, and a country with a language they're familiar with or even able to speak is is a huge reason.

I think for some, such as Afghan refugees, they would like to show their gratitude to the UK for helping the Taliban take control of 100% of their country. When the UK first went into Afghanistan 20 years ago the Taliban only controlled 90% of the country.
When I say "first" went into Afghanistan I of course mean in the 21st century, the UK has been interfering in Afghanistan for a good couple of hundred years.
So have a lot of other countries. Including the 'safe' ones next door.

The ones who are already shouldering the larger burden, France have been taking roughly 4 times as many refugees as the UK, Germany 10 times as many. They are also processing and sending back many more who don't meet the criteria, it is perhaps a novel idea that the UK could try, actually dealing with the problem rather than abusing it in the media to rouse the racists.

The population of Afghanistan is 40 million. Will we take them all? The Taliban were there before we went in. Post 9/11. There are hundreds of millions of other people who would prefer living in the UK to where they currently are.
The UK needs to decide who gets to live here. Not leave it as a prize for the winners of an obstacle race.

And we subsequently employed many of them, not only with a wage but on the promise we would oust Terry and leave them in a better place. We ****ed it and left so many of them and their families to be murdered by the Taliban. Leaving them to make their own way here is doubling down on the betrayal of that promise IMO.
For those of us who served there, who worked with them, that's a rather sore point and one that festers on my conscience and those of many of my former colleagues.
I wonder if players and managers will either decline to be interviewed or exercise their freedom of speech if they are interviewed on Saturday?

Yeah, I just took a peak on twitter (not a user there) and there is a lot of support at least from sports journalists. I think this is growing into a bigger issue now. I think the tories have genuinely shot themselves in the foot on this one by pushing such blatant censorship.

Bruce clarified that it was a one-off as described by his friends, when she said it happened multiple times.
