My son (17) has been succesful in getting a place with 'Project Trust', which is a charitable organisation, teaching English to under privildged kids in South Asia. Which is great and I'm dead proud an' all that, but....
...he has to raise just short of £5000 in just less than 5 months. 😯
So we are busy trying to come up with different ways to raise funds - one thing I'm trying to sort is a charity sports auction, signed shirts , lessons with a golf pro etc.
1. Does anyone have any experience of this type of thing ?
2. Anybody got any ideas of ways to raise lots of money - fast ?
3. Anyone willing to make a donation ?
any help (such as stuff for the sports auction) and/or advise would be greatly received.
cheers

NB: I know ,I know it would be a good idea for him to start teaching english to his father firts
a job paying 250 a week would do it....
Surely the 5 grand would be better given directly to the injians?
Well done to your son. I did exactly that in Thailand '95-'96. Great country, great twelve months and a top organisation. Fond memories of selection and training on Coll.
In those days it was £3,500 and even that wasn't easy. Did the obvious ones - part-time job, sponsored head shave, sponsored walk from Aviemore to Braemar but was still short. In the end they sent a bunch of us to a posh lunch at the Shell HQ in London who stumped up the difference. Bit weird that.
Email me if you want to know more.
Hi, if its any use to you its what I do for a living I'm Fundraiser for The Blind Society, I write bids and stuff and I'm just wracking my brains now about grant giving bodies that sponsor individuals you may not need to go down the sitting in a bath of baked beans for small change route.
Email me your details and I'll have a look on our database today for you
Debs 😀
Meant to say, if you already know which country he's going to, approach a local restaurant from there and see if they'll give a meal for the auction. Recent activity on here suggests an auction/raffle would be quite successful.
thanks for the advice and positive responses - keep 'em coming
Naively, I guess - I didn't expect you'd have to pay to be a volunteer
A race night usually raises a decent sum for relatively little effort. Even better if you can run a bar and take the profits.

Not actually my cup of Earl Grey, but there are plenty for whom it is.

You're not exactly paying to be a volunteer - its more that you have to raise the funds to facilitate the project and your placement on it.
