[Closed] Game of Thrones Season 7

I watched a 1080p download of e06 on my projector and the picture was very good. The sound was only 2.0 rather than the usual 5.1 you get on decent downloads.

Although we've got Sky, I've actually been downloading all the episodes in HD on a Monday morning and watching them on Monday night in our cinema room. The picture is better, there are no adverts and my SkyQ box is only in the living room. I can phsically relocate it to use on the PJ but it's a lot more hassle.

On season 7, although it's great, I can't help but feel they're trying to pack in too much into every episode. Also, they keep on sticking in bits where someone magically pops up to rescue someone else i.e. Bronn saving Jaime from the fire breath. Furthermore, characters or even whole armies seem to cross Westeros with ease and magically appear in the right place at the right time. This starkly contrasts with all the tortuous journeys undertaken in seasons 1-6.

Whilst the first 6 seasons were based on books (although book 6 still hasn't been released yet has it?) this is only based on a framework devised by George RR Martin AFAIK.

I can't help feeling this story would be better told over more episodes - at least 10.

I hadn't realised that an overview of every episode of this season had been leaked at the begining of the season.

Just watched it on HBO in Canada so as far as I'm concerned it's time for discussion.

Yeah, hands up who went they are going to need a dragon to get out of this one...
Loved the hound lobbing rocks and then it falling short

The bit where Danny gets to see that Jon has taken sever knives to the heart kind of moves that along and they will have a very strong alliance with 3 heirs to the iron throne in the mix.

Though quite what you do about an dead dragon is another story, kind of hoped Danny and Jon would have taken a ride to Winterfell on the Dragon just to sort the northern stuff out a bit.

its a shame Dany didnt just give Jon a lift on the dragon north of the wall seeing as tho it only takes about 10 minutes. they could've just done a fly-by over the army of skeletors at altitude and saved everybody a lot of trouble...

also what is the point of bran, sat there in Winterfell doing nowt? he knows all this info but cba sending a raven even...

GoT since it left the books as source material, and no I never read them, seems like slightly mediocre fan fiction. The major downside of this is we have got to the stage where certain characters now seem safe from harm, whereas previously, anyone was likely to get a sword in the eye. Now, when our band of heroes goes on a suicide run, I was fairly confident they'll all come back....well, apart from a couple of red shirts and a red priest.

Issues.

1. It's all still waaaay to fast to get everywhere purely for serving plot.

2. The Dragon problem still exists. In that they could have ended the series in episode 1. Whether it's torching enemies, flying to the red keep and just flaming Cersei so they could stick to their not melting innocents rule, flying over the wall to pick up a dead dude etc.

3. More 'in the nick of time' rescues. Uncle Benji, RIP, really had the turning up at the very last minute thing down to a fine art....still not sure why he had to kill himself.

Questions:

1. So the whole plot, and the reason the Night King didn't rain arrows/spears down on our intrepid band stuck in the middle on the rock, was he was waiting, like we were, for the dragon to turn up. I mean, why else did he not just take them out, and also have a shit load of giant chains ready to go. My question is, does a Zombie Dragon still need a Targaryen to fly it? As we're running quite low on those...especially Zombie ones.

2. Did Jon Snow's staff eyes close when we thought he was dead? Or just a glitch?

I suspect the Night King will be flying the zombie dragon.

Question is, can Bran warg into (dead) dragons? His whole warging ability seems to have been forgotten about.

Looking forward to the blue fire from the zombie dragon regardless.

Loves to tell people he is the spooky blue tit, yet never actually helps people with his powers.

I did wonder why they were waiting, until he whipped out the spear thing.
Then I assumed that was his plan all along.
The only issue for me was that his throwing technique was a bit "girly" yet that thing went like a rocket.

The only people who I want to see make it through all this is the Hound and the ginger wildling bloke. Shame about Dennis Pennis.

Well the problem is obvious and in some ways unavoidable. Had they waited for GRRM to complete the books they would have had to take several years off. Actors and crew can't be retained on such a basis and a significant amount of the hype would have cooled off.

Even if the screen writers made a concerted effort to pace seasons 6 onward in the fashion we were previously accustomed to it would have necessitated four or five more seasons. Sounds great but you can only sustain interest for so long. Audience interest dies off, budgets decrease and you end up with a lame duck.

It's jarring to see all the time travel in this season but I'm okay with the trade off if it gets to a conclusion while the show is still relevant. I'd rather they take liberties with distance and time for dramatic effect than have two more seasons and 20 hours of material to get to the point they are at now.

I've been quite ambivalent about the whole people going too fast stuff but this weeks was pretty bad

Gendry was able to run to Eas****ch, get them to send a raven to Dragonstone, Daenerys then jumps on a dragon and goes north of the wall.

Meanwhile the ice hasn't frozen over yet and the group hasn't starved or frozen to death (apart from Thoros)

That's when it gets a bit sticky. But maybe they needed to be in enough peril to have to call for backup. Plus if Mr Freeze does have future seeing tricks up his ice poles, then maybe he knew how it would play out.

I think GoT's appeal goes way beyond nerds. But the Star Wars comparison doesn't really apply since most of the films are self contained beginning/middle/end stories, and beginning/middle/end trilogies.

Star Wars would not be the huge success it has been if was nerd only. Nerd appear has been a massive contribution, but it's appeal has clearly gone way beyond that.

Regardless, I still think there could be a middle ground between what came before, and what we have now.

Yes I'm sure there could be but it would be a gamble. Plus there becomes an issue as to whether you adapt an outline draft of a novel or wait till the novel is finished then adapt. Either way it's a risky strategy to put the biggest show in the world on hold.

Also we started with a finite number of characters, I'm sure Martin will add a heap of spare bodies in the books just to kill off. Now we have people who presumably have defined exits so need to serve a purpose.

re. the time travel

Sansa mentioned in the latest episode that Jon had been gone "for weeks" implying that they've not shown the travelling but it's still happening (and taking the same amount of time). Fair enough; we know the journeys are long & arduous but we've seen them already and don't need to be shown every journey again & again.

Gendry is Mo Farah though & the dragons are actually Concordes.

So if the Night king can see all, what are the chances of Bran being the Night king? Might explain while he's not actually bothering to tell anyone what he's seen. We've seen the whole mind time travel thing with Hodor.

It would be a major turn up, I think they showed the fella that got transformed into the night king in an earlier episode and it wasn't Bran so if I've remembered that rightly they'd have some explaining to do.

That confused me a bit, it seemed like Baelish wanted Sansa to have Brienne protect her from Arya but then Sansa sent Brienne away from Winterfell. Then Arya does her best silence of the lambs and follows it up by giving Sansa the catspaw dagger. Was that just supreme confidence on Arya's part or was she giving Sansa the dagger for another reason?

I took it more to be that Arya is still playing LittleFinger. I reckon that Arya knows/suspects the daggers relation to LF, and that if he sees that trusted dagger in the hands of Sansa he'll think that Sansa and Arya are still tightly knit cause Arya has handed over a prized possession ... when in reality Ayra is just blackmailing her.

As for Bran and White King being one and the same ... not sure. Looking back at the scene of the white king being created by the children of the forest ... the little girl uses the phrase " to protect us from you ... " and then changes it to man in general. ...

which makes me think that Bran = Brandon the Builder = Able to go back in time and change stuff from long long ago ... and so build the wall etc etc

then did he do something long ago against the children of the forest which necessitated the white king to be created.

How old is the White King meant to be ?
